The weather was beautiful the last couple of weeks, so some of our club members decided to explore the outdoor patio and brighten it up!

Last Friday was National Pet Appreciation Day and we celebrated with a special visit from, Scout, a 7 year old rat-terrier/chihuahua mix. Scout enjoyed being the center of attention and receiving all sorts of love. Our clients got the opportunity to ask questions, watch him perform a few tricks and reminisce about some of their pets, while enjoying the love and comfort only a pet can bring. We hope Scout comes back to visit us again soon!

April Showers brought...Snow?!?! But we didn't let that stop us from creating a "springtime" masterpiece with watercolor!

Some of the Adult Day Center clients joined Suzanne (our Office Coordinator) and Lily (our newest Activity Associate) in Art Club where they learned a few different Watercolor techniques including; wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry and splattering. We also experimented with adding salt which creates a starburst-like pattern as it dries by sucking up the pigmentation.

Some of the clients from the Adult Day Center had an Art History lesson on Wassily Kandinsky, a law teacher turned artist, who is widely considered a pioneer of abstract art. Kandinsky experienced a neurological phenomenon, called synesthesia, which allowed him to "hear colors" and "see sounds"; influencing his artistic style.

Inspired by one of his well-known painting "Several Circles" (created in 1926), the clients cut and placed layers of colorful circles to form a tree while listening to classical music. Please enjoy our clients artwork; the next Kandinsky's.

Yesterday, Kyler, with the Cleveland Metroparks (North Chagrin Reservation) came out to visit the Adult Day Center Club Members and brought a couple of friends; Nigel, the Great Horned Owl and Mars, the Screech Owl.

Our Club Members asked many thoughtful questions and gained interesting facts about owls:
Did you know that an owl can turn their head 280 degrees?
Did you know they have a horrible sense of smell, but great sense of hearing and sight?
Did you know that a great horned owls foot can administer 500 POUNDS of pressure per square inch?
Can you believe that Nigel only weights 3 lbs?

If you would like to visit Nigel or Mars, you can see then in their outside enclose located at the North Chagrin Nature Center by the duck pond.
