For a long time, I thought I needed to think my way out of stress.
More affirmations. More “positive mindset.” More pushing.
What actually helped? Tiny, physical signals of safety.
Here are 6 micro-habits we teach clients when their system feels overwhelmed:
•Gentle pressure — hugging a pillow, pressing your feet into the floor
• Temperature shifts — cool water on your wrists or warmth in your hands
• Orienting — slowly scanning the room and noticing where you are
• Auditory anchors — steady music, white noise, familiar voices
• Far-gaze reset — looking into the distance for 20–30 seconds
• Bilateral movement — walking, gentle rocking, left/right tapping
None of these require motivation.
None of them require “calming down.”
