At Kids Lead, we talk a lot about whether things feel comfortable or uncomfortable—and for good reason! This simple language helps children begin to recognize their body signals and understand the world around them in a safe and validating way.
🔅Our bodies are constantly taking in information from eight senses—not just the five we usually hear about! This includes pressure, movement, and internal cues like hunger or temperature.
🔅Sometimes, the brain labels these sensations as comfortable (safe, calm, just right) or uncomfortable (too much, painful, confusing). And that label influences how we respond.
🔅But here’s the tricky part: most of this happens without us even realizing it. That’s why we take time to slow down, notice, and talk about it.
✨ By helping kids recognize what feels comfortable or uncomfortable, we’re supporting their ability to self-advocate, self-regulate, and feel safe in their world.
Try asking your child:
👉 “Did that feel comfortable or uncomfortable in your body?”
👉 “Was that too loud or just right for you?”
👉 “What would help your body feel more comfortable right now?”
Every child deserves to feel safe, heard, and understood.
