How many times have you said, “𝐈 𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐮𝐭 𝐦𝐲𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭”?

It may look like like
☠ Being the last person to eat
☠ Not taking time to get rest
☠ Putting family first
☠ Putting your career responsibilities ahead of eating lunch
☠ Giving support to friends instead of yourself
☠ Ignoring your health concerns

As a mom, I was amazing at this 😔🥺

I wore it like a badge of honor and it didn’t matter if I didn’t get the recognition. I would say,
✨I am a mom.
✨I am a wife.
✨I am an aunt.
✨I am a friend.
✨I am a sister.
✨I am a caregiver.

The crazy thing is that a lot of the responsibilities I took on weren’t even asked of me. I thought I had to do it. (L̲e̲t̲ ̲m̲e̲ ̲k̲n̲o̲w̲ ̲i̲f̲ ̲y̲o̲u̲'̲v̲e̲ ̲e̲v̲e̲r̲ ̲f̲e̲l̲t̲ ̲l̲i̲k̲e̲ ̲t̲h̲i̲s̲) 🤦🏽‍♀️ I know now it has a lot to do with societal expectations where I’m expected to sacrifice and put myself last. It’s expected that we suppress our own desires and needs and put everyone before ourselves. And if you think about it, FEEL GUILTY.

It was so bad.

Check this out…my husband would try over and over to have me do things for myself and I had the nerve to get mad at him for wanting me to put myself first. I’m so grateful for his patience 🤎 God knew what he was doing by bringing us together 🫶🏾

I learned and still am learning not to have the guilt of not sacrificing myself. I’m over cultural conditioning. All of that leads to fear of judgment and being criticized which leads to being overly stressed and showing up as discomfort in our body.

If you find you are battling belly fat, science proves that stress creates it. If you find that you can’t sleep, stress creates it. If you find that you have hormonal imbalances, stress creates that too.

I’m always finding ways to not let life experiences be my excuse to not put myself first. I’m part of the “I don’t care what you think” crew. People are gonna think what they’re gonna think no matter what. So now, I no longer say, “I don’t have time for myself.”
