Woody LOVES to fist bump and he loves a bit of Fireball.. He also loves to pet all the dogs but that didn’t alliterate well. (Formerly Woody’s War on Wilson’s)
Woody wanted to rebrand and update his page and so we are! He wanted this page to follow more than just his Wilson Disease. Anyone who has ever run with Woody will know immediately: they are 2 of Woody’s favorite things! Woody brings Fireball to all his races, and he LOVES to fist bump everyone – other runners, friends, strangers, people along the course - literally everyone! He loves a bit of Fireball with literally everyone too. Please follow as Woody continues his journey to run a half marathon in all 50 states as well as his battle against Wilson Disease. Former page info:
Woody was diagnosed with Wilson's disease in November of 2011 at the age of 20. Wilson's disease is a genetic disease where the result is his body can't get rid of copper and it caused copper to accumulate in his brain for 20 years before we knew about it. A short history - The first year of the disease we saw our son decline to the point where he can no longer control his body - he has complete body spasms and dystonia severe enough to result in spastic quadriplegia. Additionally, he can no longer chew or swallow and is fed completely by G-tube. And he can't talk. He requires round the clock care with feeding, personal care, meds and therapy. Through all of this, he remains positive and is cognitively completely "there" - he is still the same Woody, same personality, same great sense of humor and just as smart as he ever was.
