Like to join my first public class at somayogamichigan? Next Sunday, 2/1, at 4:30pm I’m hosting Ayurvedic Community Yoga. This is a welcoming all-levels class (beginner friendly!) grounded in seasonal wisdom. Think of it as a gentle flow class, that also introduces Ayurvedic principles to help take your practice from the mat and into your life. This is a sliding scale class (pay what you can), with a $10 recommended amount. This offering was developed with care and intention — it’s one simple way I can share traditional, beautiful practices with the community.

I suggest you arrive about 10 minutes early to get signed up and settled in for class.

The room is learning how to hold. It’s beautiful.

We’ll begin together in the late afternoon on February 1 with our first public class:
Ayurvedic Community Yoga — a welcoming, all-levels practice grounded in seasonal wisdom.
Offered at a $10 sliding scale.
All are welcome.

Founder memberships are open now.
Class reservations will open on our first day.

For now, you’re invited simply to mark the moment.
Add 4:30pm, Sunday February 1, to your calendar.
Arrive a few minutes early to get checked in and settle.

When we talk about balance or “the middle way,” the goal isn’t to find some kind of average between self-indulgence and self-mortification, to punish our pleasure, or reward ourselves for our punishment. The middle way emerges from “resting the heart upon” acceptance of the tension, stress, and general discomfort associated with these extremes. Another interesting concept! Symmetry in our bodies and in our practice. ✨✨ I try to instruct the same postures and sequences on both sides of the body, but I know sometimes I mix up the sequence or perhaps we get a few more breaths in during one side’s pose than another. And that’s ok!

The Pitta (fire-type) brain, or even the Vata (air-type) may get hung up on little inconsistencies in practice but… that’s just the mind doing what the mind does! Distracting, thinking, fussing…

A yoga practice helps us to make friends with our mind, understand how it works, and eventually train it to work for us (not against us) and our practice.

Enjoy the flow and each moment of movement, and remember what the true purpose is of the asana. Chitta Vritti Nirodha ✨🙏😌🪷❤️
