How is it already the end of February, Collingswood?! ❄️ This month flew by — and if a 2026 home project is on your mind, now’s the perfect time to start planning.

Hiring the right contractor can make or break your renovation experience — especially in a town full of charming older homes like ours.

These tips were generously shared by Jenkins Construction Services, another one of our expert contributors here at Collingswood Living.

We’re so grateful for local pros who share their knowledge with our community. 🙌

Here’s what to look for:
✨ Clear, consistent communication
🏡 Local experience (and references you can check!)
📄 Proper insurance
📝 Detailed written estimates
⏳ A realistic timeline

And a few 🚩 to avoid:
❌ Large upfront payment demands
❌ No written contract
❌ Prices that seem too good to be true

The bottom line? It’s about trust — not just price. A little diligence now can save you major stress later.

What projects are on your wish list this year, Collingswood? 👇

Hey Collingswood Neighbors! 🏡✨

1️⃣ Plan first, hammer later – Front-load discovery and design to avoid costly mistakes.

Sloan’s design-focused practice helps busy families turn dated spaces into modern, joyful homes — and makes the renovation process as enjoyable as the final reveal!

Turns out, keeping our pups healthy might be easier than we think! From blueberries to bone broth, simple, natural foods you already have at home can support your dog’s digestion, joints, brain, and even coat health. 🌿✨

Some of Doggie Designs’ favorite everyday options:

🥄 Fish Oil – for brain, coat, and inflammation support
🍲 Bone Broth – for digestion, hydration, and joint health
🫐 Blueberries – antioxidant boost for brain & immune system
💛 Turmeric – natural anti-inflammatory for joints & immunity
🍄 Medicinal Mushrooms – support immune & nervous system, especially for seniors

💡 Pro Tip: Start small, go slow, and always check with your vet if your pup takes medications. Avoid anything with xylitol or added sugar.

Sometimes the best medicine is right in your kitchen! 🏡💖

Hey Colls! Did you catch the February issue?

All about, Leading where you live 💙🏫

If you have kids in the Collingswood schools, you know the name Dr. Fred McDowell. As Superintendent for Collingswood and Oaklyn, he’s making big decisions by day… and by night? He’s the “unpaid Uber driver” getting his own kids from preschool to practice.

But here’s what makes his leadership unique: he’s not leading from a distance. He lives here. His kids go to school here. And as he puts it:

“If it’s not good enough for my kids, it’s not good enough for yours either.”

From a career pivot after 9/11 to building curriculum from scratch as a first-year teacher, to now overseeing districts that are outperforming pre-pandemic benchmarks, Dr. McDowell’s path has always come back to one thing: impact.

Under his leadership:
📚 Literacy & math gains for four straight years
🎓 Universal preschool access achieved (goodbye, waitlist!)
🤝 A renewed focus on instructional leadership & community partnership

Off the clock, you’ll find him supporting local small businesses, talking architecture, or cheering on his kids around town — fully aware that in a place like Collingswood, leadership doesn’t clock out.

Because here, school isn’t just policy. It’s personal.

🤼‍♂️💙 Checking In with Collingswood High School Wrestling! 💙🤼‍♂️

The season is off to a high-energy start for Collingswood High School Wrestling—and the action isn’t just happening on the mat!

Coach Dechlin Moody sums it up best: building a close-knit wrestling family, keeping things fun, and pushing athletes outside their comfort zones helps build confidence that carries far beyond competition. With creative workouts, the team is working harder than they realize—and loving it.

🏃‍♂️ Team Traditions We Love:

Philly Bridge Run: Ringing in the New Year by running across the Benjamin Franklin Bridge and visiting the Rocky Statue 🥊

🎄 Christmas Tree Run: A five-mile run around town carrying a Christmas tree—a cherished Christmas Eve tradition

🎳 Bowling Night Showdown: Top six varsity wrestlers vs. five coaches. Total pins win… losers run home from the alley! (Coaches remain undefeated at 16–0 👀)

From teamwork to tradition, this program is building strong athletes and even stronger bonds.

📖 Want the full story? Be sure to check out this month’s issue of Collingswood Living for more on local teams, traditions, and community highlights!

Bonus highlight? Tara’s 6-year-old daughter joined her onstage for an a ca****la performance that melted hearts! 💖👩‍👧
