🔥 Your backyard is calling… why let it go to waste this season? 🔥

A huge THANK YOU to another one of our expert contributors this month, Dave Rettinger Jr., Owner of Rettinger Fireplace Systems, for sharing expert insight on how to transform your outdoor space into the ultimate hub for cooking, fire, and connection. 🏡✨

After one of the coldest winters in recent memory, many South Jersey homeowners are ready for sunshine, fresh air, and time spent with family and friends. Dave explains how features like outdoor fireplaces and fire pits create the perfect cozy gathering spot for roasting marshmallows with the kids, relaxing after dinner, or enjoying a glass of wine with friends on cool evenings. 🔥🍷

He also highlights how today’s outdoor kitchens go far beyond the grill—with built-in cooking areas, prep space, refrigeration, pizza ovens, and seating that keeps everyone together while the meal is being made. 🍕🍔

The best part? Every backyard can be customized to fit the way your family lives—whether that means hosting the neighborhood, creating a peaceful retreat, or building the perfect entertainment space.

Be sure to read the full article in our April issue of Collingswood Living! 📖

And tell us… are YOU ready for the May issue? It’ll be here in just a few short days! 🎉

Collingswood, meet your new definition of “how does she do it all?” 🙌✨

Sara Gates is what happens when organized energy meets community heart. Between leading workplace design projects across the country and juggling life as a mom of two, she still found time to notice something simple—but important: Collingswood girls didn’t have their own softball program ⚾

So she didn’t just ask questions… she built the solution 🛠️

From launching a petition with 500+ signatures to working alongside Collingswood Little League to secure dedicated field space, Sara helped bring girls’ softball back home—where it belongs.

This spring, over 65 girls will step onto the field in Collingswood jerseys for the very first time 🙌 And yes, there will be a ceremonial first pitch, support from the high school team, and a whole community cheering them on 📣💙

And that’s just one chapter.

She’s also a designer 🎨, project leader, PTA VP 📚, coach 🥎, small business owner, garden enthusiast 🌿 (yes, “full-fledged farm” vibes), and proud Collingswood neighbor who somehow still shows up everywhere she’s needed most.

Her story is really our story—what happens when one person cares enough to ask, “Why not here?” and then does something about it 💫

🎨🏘️ Our Town Collingswood returns for its 16th year! 🏘️🎨

Each spring, students in the pre-K program at Thomas Sharp Elementary School team up with senior buddies from Collingswood High School to build a miniature version of Collingswood—complete with beloved local restaurants, shops, and landmarks brought to life in tiny detail. 🧡

The creative “construction site,” led by educators Amy Hoffman and Cindy Rossi, showcases classrooms full of imagination as students design and assemble their community from the ground up. From miniature buildings to hanging clouds ☁️ crafted by Mrs. DelMonte’s class, every piece reflects collaboration, pride, and creativity across grade levels.

✨ The full display is now available for a limited time in the front window of The Retrospect—a must-see stop for anyone strolling through town!

Did you know that when young children sleep, their brains are actually hard at work? 🧠

💫 During those precious naps and nighttime rest, little minds are building connections, strengthening memory, and learning how to regulate emotions.

A huge THANK YOU to our expert contributor, Dr. Deborah Zupito of Little Learning Academy, for sharing her incredible insights with the Collingswood Living community! 💛

Here’s the takeaway for parents + caregivers:
✨ Sleep = learning
✨ Naps boost memory + attention
✨ Rest supports emotional regulation (goodbye, meltdowns 👋)
✨ Well-rested kids = more curiosity, flexibility, and joy

What might look like “misbehavior” is often just an overtired little nervous system asking for rest. And skipping naps? It can actually make nighttime sleep harder, not easier.

💡 Bottom line: Protecting sleep in the early years is one of the simplest and most powerful ways to support healthy development—emotionally, physically, and cognitively.

🏀✨ What a season for the CHS girls basketball team! Under first-year coach Mike McKeown, the Panthers roared to a 20-9 record and made waves in the South Jersey Group 2 playoffs.

🔥 Junior guard Tatum Hinson nearly averaged 20 points per game, racking up 1,212 career points heading into her senior year, while Norah Roseboro added 14.2 points per game.

💥 The Panthers’ 1,364 total points? Possibly the most in CHS history! Add Grace Eife, the freshman steal machine with 75 steals, and a team full of grit, and you’ve got one unforgettable season.

🎉 With only one senior graduating, the Panthers are ready to bring the heat next year—expectations are higher than ever!

🚐💨 The Caravan of Hope Takes the Fast Lane!

This March, the 32-foot RV led by local lawyer Angela Giampolo hit the road for 17 cities in 31 days—bringing legal and social support straight to the LGBTQ+ community! 🏳️‍🌈✨

Think of it as a mobile law firm + sanctuary rolled into one, reaching areas where folks might not have access to lawyers who truly get their needs. From family law help to workplace protection, the Caravan of Hope is all about safety, dignity, and justice—no matter where you live. 💼❤️

In a whirlwind legal landscape, Angela and her team are helping with:

✅ Name changes & gender marker updates
✅ Adoption petitions & uncontested divorces
✅ Employment discrimination & safety plans
✅ Serving rural “resource deserts” where q***r support is scarce

As Angela says: “If you can’t get to justice, justice will come to you.” 💪

An undisclosed guest list.

A dinner party built for people who are a little curious… and a little adventurous.

There are still a few seats left — but it’s quietly selling out.

All you have to do is show up.

Meet new people in your community.

Let the night unfold.

And when dinner ends…

we disappear to an undisclosed afterparty. 💃 🕺 🪩

🌦️ Spring showers are beautiful… until they’re not!

From sudden storms to strong winds, spring weather can be unpredictable. Luckily, with a little preparation, you can help keep your home and family safe.

Expert tips from Dane Cox, State Farm® Insurance Agent, shared via the State Farm® Editorial Team:

✅ Let it flow: Clear gutters & drains so heavy rains don’t damage your foundation.

✅ Roof check: Inspect for winter wear & tear—consider a professional inspection.

✅ Trim trees: Prune branches that could become dangerous debris.

✅ Spring clean: Keep your home navigable & create a home inventory.

✅ Surge protection: Check grounding systems & surge protectors for electronics.

✅ Check pumps: Test sump pumps & consider battery backups.

✅ Secure outdoor items: Patio furniture, yard items, & vehicles should be stowed before high winds.
✅ Cover up: Storm shutters, window coverings, and blankets for cars can reduce damage.

✅ Have a plan: Make sure everyone knows your household storm plan.

✅ Emergency supplies: Flashlights, batteries, first-aid kits, non-perishable food, water, and a weather radio.

After the storm passes, if there’s any damage, reach out directly to Dane Cox to get started. 🏠⚡
