The early bird gets the worm...or rather the mountain summit! Josh and I drove out to Mt. Massive and spent the night so we could get up and hike the next morning. Our our alarms went off at 2:45 AM!

We spent about 3 hours walking in the dark on the Colorado trail, and then after beautiful sunrise started our ascent of the mountain. It was a very cold morning (about 30 degrees) that morphed into a gorgeous day reaching 57 degrees with perfectly cloudless blue sky.

This hike was a doozy not because it was super hard but because it was so long. 16 miles later, we finished with sore feet and tired but excited hearts. We conquered another beast of a hill complete with scrambling and creek crossings. We celebrated with some sourdough chocolate chip cookies and some well earned pop!

We took our kids rock climbing last night. It was so fun to watch their strength and excitement and determination! We had a couple of brand new climbers who had a few nerves to work out but after a couple of climbs it was fun and they jumped in 100%.

I think the best part was watching their faces when they pushed past a point of fear or conquered a wall that they had tried over and over getting to the top and couldn't find a good route. Such pride! 😊

It's this sweet little bear's birthday today. Happy birthday Rock-O-Dile Dundee!

You give the best shoulder hugs and are such a great workout buddy. You have a talent for snuggling and listening without interrupting and are probably the best looking one in our family. 😂 We love you so much. Thank you for being willing to be our pup! ❤️

I was having lunch with a friend and she asked how I got up and exercised every single day.. what was my WHY? For me, it's simple.

*I want to keep living life! I want to be healthy enough to go and adventure and have the ability to actually "do".
*I want to be able to experience things WITH my kids, not just watch.
*I want longevity - I want to see my grandkids and great grandkids!
*I feel good when it exercise! Hello endorphins!
*I love the challenge of a hard workout.
*My brain is happy when I do = mental stability
*I'm an organ donor - no sense in donating yucky organs that aren't healthy. People ain't gonna want those.

I exercise for me! Do you have a why?

I swear if Bob and Amoila ever teamed up and did a program...it might literally kill me!

It's been 18 years with my best friend. No one makes me laugh harder than Josh. I'm so grateful for the life we have together! I'm thankful for his strength in all areas - emotionally, spiritually, and physically. We have the best time together, even if it's just going to Home Depot on a Thursday night.

We watched a Christmas movie the other night and the main character said, "Having a perfect marriage isn't the goal, it's having someone to give love to."

Happy Anniversary Joshua Eliason ! I sure do love you!

Whew! Today was so much better! Thank you all for your concern after I mentioned that yesterday was an anxiety fueled day for me. ❤️

Today, I focused on being productive, helping my kids get ready for a sleepover at my mom's, getting in a good hard workout to ease some of the stress buildup and drink lots of water to flush my system out.

I understand some of my triggers are flared when I don't eat nutritious foods and I let some junk in, or a lot of junk in. I exercise and try to eat healthier to slow that anxiety down and be able to enjoy more of my life and not be in a constant state of panic. It's not fun!

Remember that your mental self is just as important as your physical self and that they go hand in hand.

This is me. Pajama-ed up, hair wet, no makeup, ready for bed. All afternoon, for no one good reason, I felt anxious. I had that tightness in my chest like I couldn't breathe and I couldn't get a deep enough breath. I tried to zone out on the couch and watch a show, but I still felt the anxiety creeping in. I finally decided to go hop in the shower and let the hot water melt away some stress. And it worked! Almost immediately after I stepped in, I could feel my heart rate drop.

Self care isn't necessarily doing things that are fun. It's not necessarily doing things that are your first choice for "self care". A hot shower isn't my normal fix when I feel anxious. Sometimes you need to think outside the box to lower anxiety.

I so appreciated this post by friend Annette.

You guys, 30 minutes of exercise is 2% of our day. That's it! 30 minutes that highly impact the rest of the 98% of our day.

How and why do we create such huge excuses for that 2% of time? Why are we so bothered to try and not do it? It really doesn't make much sense. We have time for it if we want to make time for it. I have the time for it. I know I can easily spend that much time on social media scrolling aimlessly at nothing. I have time for that. All that adds up to is wasted time. I have nothing to show for it.

What do I have to show for exercising? For showing up for myself?
-Muscles
-Healthier mindset
-Inner and outer strength
-Happiness

Seems like a no brainer.

St. Nick's Day... A tradition I grew up with that I have now continued with my kids. We write letters to Santa on St Nick's Eve, (Dec 5th) and put them in our stockings. Santa comes that night. He takes our letters back to the North Pole where the elves can get to work on our gifts. We let Santa know in our letters something that we are really proud of ourselves for doing in the last year, and something that we think that we could work on in December. This gives our kids, and ourselves a chance to stay on the good list.

Santa always leaves us a letter and encourages to work on the goal that we have set for ourselves that will help bring a little more Christmas cheer.

Stockings on St Nick's Day don't mean another chance to have presents and goodies. Santa leaves only needful things on St. Nick's day. Socks, underwear, things you wouldn't want to open up and unwrap on Christmas morning. We get some fruit, and a few little pieces of candy. Very simple and thoughtful.

One thing we love to do as a family during the holidays is to attend our communities large creche exhibit. It is amazing to see so many different nativities from around the world that embrace the culture of the country it was created in. This tradition makes it feel like the Christmas season has started for us.

We love Christmas and the joy we feel at this time of the year to celebrate the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ.

How bad do you want it?

I should measure every goal with this question. If I want something bad enough, I won't let anything get in the way. I won't stop trying. Not people, not excuses, not temptation.

This happened when I started my No Sugar 100 challenge for the first time. I mentioned the challenge of going 100 days with no processed sugar from Sept 22 to Dec 31. To a friend. He said I'd break long before 100 days and that I'd never be able to do it. 🤔

Ooohhh, that just made me more determined to succeed. I wanted this for me. Not for anyone else. But it did infuriate me enough to really get the job done. Haha!

Here I am on round 2 of No Sugar 100. I do it for me. I do it because I can. I do it because I want it bad enough.

What is something you won't budge on? How bad do you want it?
