Restorative yoga can unlock so much.
Today, during my restorative class, I could tell a new student was really struggling. The rest of the class was resting solidly in a soothing posture.
My brain debated on whether I should walk over to her to assist/help. That’s my personality- she’s new, I hate interfering where I’m not wanted, and I like giving my students space for their reactions.
But, today I walked over.
And she was crying.
I could see and empathize with her struggle & pain. She’d carved out this time to relax, but it wasn’t working.
I asked the student if I could touch her & then when she replied yes I placed a gentle hand on her shoulder and assured her that she is doing nothing wrong. I helped her set up in a better pose for her body. I told her she is safe. That’s she’s doing it “right”. And some other yogic stuff 😉. Then I walked away and continued guiding class.
This is sacred. In my classes, I’m aware that this deep work is being done all the time. It’s not me/ it’s a student saying yes to something. Even when you simple arrive at a class you say yes. Then that something takes over and shifts or opens spaces within. What a sacred space I get to witness and hold in my work.
The student and I connected after class and she’s coming back. She’s saying yes. She’s open and so am I. 🌙💆🏽♀️🙏🏽
