Today we're celebrating Lacey P, a volunteer coordinator of 2 years, who when asked why someone should spend their time volunteering with hospice said, "What is more rewarding than being able to make someone’s last days and memories on Earth? In my opinion nothing. Nothing compares to knowing someone passed from this earth with everything they needed and happy because of the services we provide." We couldn't agree more and thank Lacey for all she's done for the lives of others.

Social workers are in the spotlight this month, but they make a big difference every month! Pate, one of our dedicated social workers, shared how important his role is in caring not only for patients, but for their families, as well. Hear more from Pate here: https://shorturl.at/nBGMQ.

"I often see caregivers who resist the idea of facility respite care. I had a caregiver who was adamant about not sending her husband to a facility. At the time, she was exhausted and in poor health, overwhelmed by caregiver strain due to little financial and family support. After a couple of months of reassurance, she agreed to send her husband to respite care. She missed having him in the home, but she was able to get much-needed rest. When her husband returned home, she shared how much she appreciated having respite available to her and knowing that her husband was well taken care of."

We are looking for hospice volunteers!

Volunteers bring a unique perspective to the hospice care team and make a difference for each patient and family. We are looking for people who are searching for a way to make a difference in the lives of others. We will help you discover the best fit for you based on your interests. Volunteer duties include: holding a hand, sharing a story, reading to patients, or playing music. In addition, we offer administrative duties, companionship assignments, and respite assignments to sit with patients while their family members leave home for a nice respite break. We also have Vigil opportunities to sit with patients at the end of their journey when family members or friends can't be by their side. Please consider being a hospice volunteer. Orientation and training are provided. If you feel this may be a calling, please contact our office and ask for Susan Hendrix, the volunteer coordinator, at 719-330-6652. We service Colorado Springs and surrounding areas.
