Have you heard about an InBody?

An InBody does more than just monitor weight loss. It can be used to measure muscle mass, fat mass and the distribution of each. We use the InBody in our MU Joint Health Program to measure these before patients start, halfway into the program, and then again at the end. When patients are not seeing the scale move as fast as they would like, it is encouraging to see their body changing in other ways—especially if that means they are gaining muscle and losing fat!

What is a fragility fracture?

A fragility fracture is a fracture that occurs when someone falls from standing height or less, often breaking the bone(s) in the hip, spine or wrist. While breaking these bones does not always mean someone has osteoporosis, this can be a sign that someone’s bones may be weakened. If you have suffered a fracture from a standing height, it might be a good time to talk to your doctor about whether you need a bone health evaluation. Or give us a call at 573-882-3851.

Many orthopaedic procedures use tissue from donors, such as ACL surgeries, bone/fracture surgeries, osteochondral allograft surgeries, etc. Missouri Orthopaedic Institute now gives patients information on how to connect with donor families both preoperatively and post operatively.

Organ donors and their families make the ultimate sacrifice, and it is important for patients to recognize that these transplants are the result of a gift. MOI encourages patients to express condolences to the family for their loss, and let these families know how their donors have impacted their lives.
