Balance can be many things:

⚖️ Steadiness on our feet (or hands)
⚖️ Evenness in our breath, equalizing in & out
⚖️ The opposition and collaboration of effort & ease
⚖️ Juggling our day to day - work v life

However things happen to shake out, we practice balancing in many ways on our mats so that when life does come by to make waves, we’re prepared to pivot and find our footing quickly again if we get knocked over. 🤍

This month, our theme is The Sangha Hive.



We pulled the Bee card from Logan’s “Animal Spirit Deck” collection for February.



The Bee and the Sutras:

Just as bees are team-oriented and active, Patanjali emphasizes the importance of community and aligned relationships. The bee reflects earnest and hardworking dedication to the hive, or Sangha (COMMUNITY).

We can connect the vibrant and steady nature of the bee with the Yamas and Niyamas- our relationship with Self, and our relationships with the world around us.

We create vibrations in showing up, we dedicate ourselves to our practices and our goals, and the betterment of ourselves serves the community as a whole. We create healing. We inspire. We trust that our hard work is enough, and the community has our back, so that when it’s time for us to rest, we are able to release control and receive.

Shouting out one of our members, Karen! (If you attend regularly you probably know her!)

The other night, we were the only two for practice. I asked her what she wanted to work on, and she told me getting upside down… and maybe wheel.

So we spent the 75 min dedicated to headstand. Karen went from nervous and a little scared, to confident, a little nervous again, to pretty much doing the damn thing by herself!! More to go but that’s a big jump in skill to take in about an hour of practice.

THEN we practiced different ways for her to access her wheel pose. She typically struggles with access… BUT 10 minutes of switching things up and we got mostly into wheel too!!
“I think I like wheel now!” Are the words that came out of her mouth.

It’s a good reminder that sometimes we sell ourselves short. We think something is unattainable for us, but then if we just have a guide or a new perspective, p**f! there it is! We are constantly growing and learning- our bodies growing and learning too.

*Just because you don’t see progress happening, doesn’t mean it’s not there!*

Way to go, Karen! A++ on switching perspective, pushing past emotional discomfort and preconceived expectations, & showing us what happens when you’re consistent in your practice. 💯👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

One of the beautiful parts of this practice is watching how many different ways we do the one thing.

A grounded practice starts with discovering who you are- and being uniquely you. Letting everything else fall away, can you trust that you are enough?

(The answer is… you are.)

There may be a point in your time on your yoga mat where you feel like you’ve had enough and you want to go home.

(This might be during a 108 sun salutation session, or it might be during a regular old yoga class when you’ve just had a day)

Whether you stick it out or not, know that you have everything you need to figure it out, to push past discomfort or honor it, to be present even when things are sticky or gross.

Speak to yourself with kindness.
Acknowledge your strength and spirit.
You are enough.

To our fellow yoga-goblins out there… keep rolling out your mat. You know it’s almost always a better day after some time flopping around with your friends. ✌🏼
