Preschool Starts Tomorrow? You’ve Got This.
✨ Tips + gentle encouragement for navigating the first weeks of this big milestone.

Tip #1 — Talk About What to Expect
Even if it's the night before, a simple rundown can help:
🧸 “You’ll hang up your backpack, meet your teacher, and play with friends.”
📚 Keep your tone upbeat and calm—kids take their cues from you!

Tip #2 — Don’t Skip Goodbyes
Even if it feels hard:
👋 Say goodbye with confidence (even if you’re nervous inside).
💗 A short, sweet routine helps them feel secure.
(Example: Hug, kiss, “See you after snack time!”)

Tip #3 — Expect Big Feelings (and Yours Too)
Tears, clinginess, or outbursts are normal.
🌀 This is new and big—processing takes time.
🫶 Show compassion, keep the routine, and breathe. You’re both adjusting.

Tip #4 — Celebrate the Wins
🎉 “You put your shoes in your cubby!”
🎨 “You told me you colored a rainbow!”
Every small thing is worth cheering for. It builds confidence and connection.

✨ This transition might stretch you both—but it’s also growing you.
You are doing a beautiful job.
It’s okay to cry in the car.
And it’s okay to feel proud too.

💬 What helped you through the first day of school? Or what’s on your heart tonight? Let's us know in the comments!
You’re not alone in this—we’re cheering for you and your little one. 💛

Parents and families are children’s first teachers. Family Friday focuses on engaging families to support our youngest learners.

Find some time today to do something as a family - bonus points if you can put the phones/devices away!

For activity ideas or resources on positive parenting, healthy family life, and early childhood development you can check out 's activity guide via the link in our bio!

NAEYC'S TAKE ACTION:
Family members are young children’s first and most important teachers. And, they are advocates too, having experienced firsthand the importance of affordable, high-quality child care and early learning. Advocacy is most effective when families and early childhood providers work together so let's join forces!

1. Encourage families to raise their voices by joining educators, allies, and advocates around the country in urging Congress to protect and sustain investments in affordable, high-quality child care and early learning.

2. Engaging and celebrating families is at the heart of supporting our youngest learners. Share pictures and stories on social media using the hashtag as we celebrate the critical relationships between early educators and the children and families they serve.

Today is WOYC's Artsy Thursday! Children develop creativity, social skills, and fine muscles with open-ended art projects that let them make choices, use their imaginations, and create with their hands. Today we encourage them to explore their creative side and spark imaginative play!

So grab some chalk, paints, pens, old Amazon cardboard boxes, and enjoy this (rainy?) day of creative play!

For some additional ideas or tips, check out 's activity guide via the link in our bio.

NAEYC'S TAKE ACTION:
1. Nurture the creativity of children and adults in your programs
and communities. Share the creative ways that you're upholding
the revised standards in your early learning environment.

2. Brainstorm a creative advocacy action. From child care bears in the halls of Congress to a life-size game of "Chutes and Ladders" on the Capitol grounds, NAEYC and our partners have long worked towards engaging advocacy actions. What creative actions can you and your community take?

Today’s WOYC Work Together Wednesday! Get together with some friends or family and build something to encourage teamwork and social skills.

Here’s some ideas to channel your inner Einstein today and support STEM learning in Columbia or at home:

• Build and play at the aMuse’um Children’s Museum. They have exhibits geared towards engineering, construction and using those motor skills like with fishing.

• Find old toys and let your children explore how they’re made by taking them apart and putting them back together.

• Create tinker trays that invite your kids to create and invent. Use muffin trays to fill loose objects, parts or materials from nature.

Want some more ideas? Click the link in our bio for NAEYC’s resources on how to engage STEM learning with toddlers and young children.
