“So what is an audiologist?"

I am asked this question quite frequently.

Here's a little secret, believe it or not, we do a lot more than just deal with hearing aids and ask you to press the button when you hear the beep.

The beauty of audiology is that it is constantly evolving, and there is SO much variety in our field that not many people know about.

Audiologists are THE premiere hearing and balance healthcare specialists!

We are the primary healthcare professionals who: evaluate, diagnose, treat, and manage hearing loss, tinnitus, auditory processing disorders and ear-related balance disorders in individuals of all ages.

Like other healthcare professions, there are various specialties that an audiologist can chose if they so desire.

Being a mobile audiologist creates a lot of variety in my professional life. There is never a dull moment. In one clinic day, I could see a few toddlers and school-age kids in the morning for hearing tests, remove cerumen "ear wax" from patients' ears and end the day fitting a 100-year-old with hearing aids in the afternoon.

When Allyson Felix became pregnant, Nike was prepared to cut the terms of Felix's endorsement by as much as 70% due to the pregnancy, and told her to “know your place and just run.” 🤯

Amid all of this, she was forced to have an emergency c-section seven months into her pregnancy because of a potentially life-threatening condition and her baby had to live for more than a month in the NICU. But two years later she’s qualified for her fifth Olympics with her daughter watching.

Felix dropped Nike and created her own brand of running shoes, the Saysh One. She is currently running in the Olympics in Japan wearing them under the banner “I Know My Place”. 😏

With 11 medals now, she passed Carl Lewis this summer for the most track and field medals by an American in history!

How often should students have their hearing screened AT SCHOOL? 🤔

It’s more than you would think! There are many late-onset hearing losses that occur after birth. This is why it’s so important to have your child’s hearing screened consistently. Usually, this will be done in school. See post for more details!

Beginning now, we will be offering a few more services and there are a few changes to our in-home service locations!

🏡 In-home newborn hearing screenings will be offered in Columbus and Dayton area only for the time being

🤍I will be opening up my home in Columbus for mamas to bring their newborns if they would prefer for the newborn hearing screening

✨Birth-workers who would like to host a “pop-up shop” to do multiple screenings in one day & at one location for mamas to travel to, can request by messaging me or filling out a contact form on my website

🌺 I will be offering preschool/daycare hearing screenings for schools in Columbus/surrounding areas within 1 hour radius

☀️I will be offering educational audiology services to districts in Columbus and surrounding areas within a 1 hour radius
