You have to know normal to know not normal.
Thank you for your knowledge and education. You truly are one or my favorite midwife class teachers, and I wish I could spend weeks at your feet. I walked away from this weekend with much more confidence on breech and shoulder dystocia. I’m incredibly grateful.

5 babies in 5 days.✨
A successful VBAC, our biggest baby of the year, an incredible first time mama, 2 very very special repeats, a very supportive hospital induction with no pain relief, and the opportunity to be joined by a retired foundational Grandmother midwife. Women being supported by women. Jesus showing up in the most incredible ways. 5 healthy moms and babies. Watching a Great-grandmother do the newborn exam. I’m in awe. I’m honored and so blessed to do this work and be on the teams I am. The father is so so good.

In 1944, in Warsaw, a midwife named Zofia Kaminska fought occupation not with weapons, but with birth records. Her small practice, tucked in a modest flat, was a place of both beginnings and concealment. To the Germans, she was simply a woman who delivered babies. But behind her careful handwriting and steady hands lay defiance.

Zofia quietly falsified birth certificates, registering Jewish infants under Polish names, giving them identities that could not be erased. In her satchel she carried both swaddling cloths and forged papers, her touch delivering life in more ways than one. Families entrusted her not only with their newborns, but with their very survival.

One night, soldiers pounded on her door, demanding to see her records. Zofia stood firm, her ledger open on the table. Page after page listed births—ordinary, unremarkable names. What the soldiers did not see were the duplicates she kept hidden beneath the floorboards, proof of lives saved. They left, muttering about wasted time, never knowing that within those pages lay dozens of children who would grow up free.

After the war, many of those children—by then grown—spoke of her with reverence: “She gave us life twice. First in the cradle, and again on paper.”

Through ink, cloth, and the steady courage of a healer, Zofia transformed her quiet practice into a sanctuary of survival.

The story of big brother J ☀️
The morning golden hour. 3rd time mama, 1st homebirth.
A sweet 5 year old, that feels especially big today, sleeping on the couch, while his strong, incredible mama, transitions in the water close by.
Just as those tell tale sounds change, big brother wakes up, and joins dad close by mom. No tears, no fear, only eager curiosity. He saw how hard mom was working, and ran to grab Jesus to comfort her. He gently set Jesus on the table close by, and said “here mom, here’s Jesus to help you.”
Never leaving her side, he would occasionally scurry to the other side of the pool to peek if his baby sister was finally emerging.
His powerhouse mom caught their first daughter into her arms, and what sounded like shrill wheeps filled the room. I raise my head to see this darling boy belly laughing with pure joy. Nothing but sheer elation.
J proceeded to change from pajamas to his “nice clothes” to officially meet his sister.
Jesus and complete joy filled child laughter were absolutely what I would use to describe this birth.
Homebirth is family centered birth.

Part of being a good midwife/doula/birth worker is being a continual learner. Every 2 years I recertify in neonatal resuscitation, and this year I took birth emergency skills again, to stay up to date on best practices, and practice the skills we don’t have to use very often. It was an incredibly educational time, and im so glad I get the opportunity to be better. My mini midwife also got some practice, and lots of midwife love this weekend.

Our Story

//Collaborative (n) : “produced or conducted by two or more parties working together.”//

Who I am..

Welcome, I am The Birth Collaborative. I am a mother to an angel baby. I am a wife. I am a vegan. I am a space holder. I am a researcher. I am an educator. I am a friend. I am an advocate. I am a support. I am a confidant. I am a midwifery assistant. I am a doula.

My name is Hanna and I founded The Birth Collaborative in August of 2019. I grew up in Columbus, Ohio, and I have been married to my high school sweetheart since October of 2016. In early 2017, I went on a health journey that forever changed my life. I began researching a plant based diet to heal my body. Down the rabbit hole of enlightenment, I discovered the midwifery model of care and knew this was a path I wanted to be on. After several years of questioning my calling, I finally took the plunge into birth work. My first step in the process was to become a doula. I quickly fell in love with supporting women during their crossover into motherhood. I want to do nothing more than watch women come into their power as they navigate their beautiful pregnancy and labor journey. I feel called above all else in life to be a space holder for the sacredness of birth. Although the picture shown is not myself, this embodies how I want every mother to feel during pregnancy and birth.
