I find myself coming back to this quote in many interactions, usually in response to “but I know someone with autism who…” The complicated reality is that autism is not one-size-fits-all—that’s why it’s called a spectrum! Restricted interests and repetitive behaviors show up in many different ways, and social communication struggles can be masked. Just a thought for the weekend as we continue to grow our understanding of autism and neurodiversity.

We also honor notable Black psychologists like Dr. Mamie Phipps Clark, Dr. Kenneth Clark, Dr. Joseph L. White, and Dr. Inez Beverly Prosser for their significant contributions to our field.

Let’s educate ourselves, celebrate Black culture, and work towards equity and justice.
