Fliers. This lawmaker is outraged about FLIERS. Pieces of paper stuck to glass scare this man.

When you are an elected official, so-called protestors aren't "vandals", they are CONSTITUENTS.

It's a fascist message to argue that constituents shouldn't get to have a voice. I don't care what your political party is. In the U.S., speaking up is a bedrock of our political system.

If you don't want to hear from constituents, don't run for office. And if you are elected and don't want to listen, resign.

Looking back at my career in university fundraising, I can see now how many times I heard racist comments and just let people get away with it. It felt awful in my gut, and I just didn't know how my silence was violence. I truly didn't have the knowledge or skill or confidence to interrupt the harm. I'm not making excuses. I truly regret it.

And I know the racism I let continue harmed me and the people around me. And it also harmed my profession and the institutions I worked for.

So today, I'm thinking about some of the other professions & institutions that are also harmed by racism every day.

A pause in the fighting is good news indeed. And I am sickened at how much of news reports in the U.S. centers the "excruciating" work of the diplomats.

Just so we're straight on this, the spin is that we are supposed to congratulate these people for taking over 6 weeks to figure out how to do their most basic of jobs: protect human lives. While 6,000 children have died because of their agonizingly slow diplomacy.

The deaths of these children are on their hands.

How much faster would this have gone if, instead of making phone calls, the U.S. had cut off funding to the Israeli government? Money talks a lot louder than words.

The U.S. must do better. We must stop funding genocide, period.

And We the People most definitely need to learn to think critically and dig deeper than the headlines. These diplomats and elected officials have a lot of blood on their hands. We must not forget this.

Silence is violence against Black, Brown & Indigenous people.
Silence is violence against LGBTQIA+ people.
Silence is violence against disabled people.
Silence is violence against next generations.
Silence is violence against women.
Silence is violence against non-dominant religious groups.
Silence is violence against poor people.
Silence is violence against unhoused people.
Silence is violence against ancestors.
Silence is violence against your own heart.
Silence is violence against yourself.

I wore my "Ban Guns" hat today. This afternoon, I was in a parking lot and stopped to check on a family that was having car trouble.

The husband initially smiled at me and thanked me for stopping. When he saw my hat, he asked what I meant by it and told me I was wrong about guns, that they make us safer and I'm a fool not to know that.

Then he noticed my electric car and he said, "You're going to destroy the world with those things."

Yes, this happened after I stopped to see if I could help them with their car trouble. I can't actually think of a more peaceful, friendly, kind thing to do than offer to help a stranger having car trouble. Yet this White man felt threatened because I wore a hat that's asking for peace and safety.

This isn't the first time this has happened to me.

When somebody learns I eat plant-based/vegan, they usually ridicule me for my choice.

When I say, "I want a ceasefire in Gaza," many people respond with violent language.

When I tell folks I'm working to dismantle racist systems, most people actually take a step back to put some distance between us. And that's before they tell me I'm making too big a deal of it and that I shouldn't use the word "racist" in everyday conversation because it's too dangerous to talk about.

I'm a person who's standing up for peace. Peace for you, me, and all of us. And my calls for peace are met with violence most of the time.

I'm White and I've got big shoulders so I can handle this nonsense, because of all people in the U.S., I'm going to face the fewest consequences for taking the unpopular stance by bringing awareness to actual violence and calling for peace.

I know my BIPOC friends and colleagues don't get the same grace and safety I do, and are in fact in actual danger by speaking out. And yet, they are speaking out far louder than my White friends and colleagues.

We MUST come together to be the voice FOR peace and AGAINST racism and other systemic forms of violence.

In a bombshell article, is reporting today that Israel for years has been operating a nationwide spy ring in the US to monitor and harass pro-Palestinian students and faculty on college campuses – an operation that is blatantly illegal and designed to silence those who question Israel's government.

The FBI has known about this Israeli-operated spy ring for years and seems to have done nothing to stop it. In the meantime, the and other major US media are ignoring the story.

What might be most scary about this story is that a foreign power is essentially running a criminal racketeering operation on US soil designed to undermine the free speech rights of US citizens. According to the article, a high-level ministry in the Netanyahu government set up a phony front group in the US called Israeli Campus Coalition. The front group uses pro-Israel students to spy on their fellow students, with information passed on to Israel's intelligence agencies. If Israel believes the person with pro-Palestinian sympathies represents enough of a threat, its operatives will mount a phony defamation campaign against the person accusing them of being "anti-Semitic" or a "terrorist" sympathizer.

The incessant focus of most US media on reports of campus hate crimes in response to the Gaza conflict must be seen in the context of Israeli efforts to undermine the free speech rights of those students criticizing their government. This spy ring must be shut down. FBI: do your job.

I'm teaching myself to use the word "racist" as an accurate & neutral description of systems and behavior. That's what I want for you, too, because it is a powerful kind of freedom! So, I'm using Thanksgiving as a timely example to illustrate how this works.

Please read this and don't look away. *The Thanksgiving holiday is a state-sponsored large-scale celebration of racist history, racist behavior and racist systems.*

Believe it or not, what I just wrote isn't judgmental, it's a neutral statement of fact. Sit with that for a minute. Does it blow your mind to hear that talking about racism can be a neutral observation of fact, and not a personal judgment? 🤯

I'm not judging you if you celebrate Thanksgiving or if you aren't sure yet why it's such a problematic symbol.

You might *feel* judged right now, but it's not coming from me. That judged feeling was taught to you and all of us because that reaction protects the status quo, which is our racist systems.

That's right: we were taught to let awful feelings of judgment control us because it keeps us in line so the power status quo remains in power! We were taught to cause this harm to ourselves. Mind blown again? I hear you. 🤯

I want you to be able to interrupt racism so you can be free of feeling that judgment. So you can be free to act according to your conscience and sleep well at night. That, my friend, is the power of interrupting racism.
