These simply ARE NOT true! You still have options with your c-section.

You can have these things as long as there is no emergency for baby, but they aren’t the standard.

Make a birth plan for a planned or unplanned cesarean.

While you’re at it, play music in the OR, have your support person take lots of pictures, birth is birth and should be joyful and sacred, no matter how we are giving birth.

Feel free to DM me to discuss planning a family centered c-section and which choices you have in the operating room.

Not sure if your water broke?

Put on a liner and see if you’ve soaked it within an hour. You can also do a big cough and see if some gushes. If so, chances are your water broke. You will also occasionally leak until your baby is born.

Should you rush to the hospital? Please NO! Let your body do its thing and let labor progress until you get to the point of heading to the hospital. You’ve head of the 4-1-1 rule right?

Continue to labor at home as you would and yes, it’s ok to shower or bathe. Just once your water has broken, nothing goes in…so no s*x.

You can jot down and let your provider know TACO.

T- time it occurred
A- amount of fluid
C- color of fluid
O- does it have an odor

What time did it break? Or what time do you think it broke?

Was it a gush or a trickle and how much fluid came out?

The color should be clear, sometimes with a pinkish tinge. If it is brown or green, or mostly bright red blood like a period please call your provider and head in.

It shouldn’t smell like p*e, but almost have a sweet smell, if any smell at all. If it has a strong foul odor call your provider and head in.

Now, if your water breaks and contractions don’t start, you do not have to sign up for induction methods. You can stay at home and try some natural methods of getting things going like walking, ni**le stimulation, or the miles circuit.
In most cases labor will begin within 24 hours. Have a conversation with your provider about what is right for you. (For instance if you are GBS+ this slightly changes things).
