Congratulations 🎊

NASW Ohio board member and Region 1 Co-Director Dr. LaShardae Scott recently delivered a powerful TEDx Talk on the urgent need for equity in sickle cell care. Speaking as a mother, advocate, and changemaker, Dr. Scott calls out the discrimination embedded in our healthcare systems and urges action to ensure better care for all communities.

What a night to remember! The NASW-Ohio Gala was truly an unforgettable experience, and if you weren’t there, you definitely don’t want to miss it next year! The energy was incredible, the DJ kept the dance floor alive, and the camaraderie among social workers was unmatched. NASW Ohio staff met with Representative Karen Brownlee, a social worker and NASW member, who is now serving in the Ohio House of Representatives. Prior to joining the legislature, Karen worked as a clinical social worker and trainer within the community mental health field in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her work focused on improving mental health outcomes for children, adolescents, and families. We're thrilled to have her in the Ohio General Assembly!

Ohio Senate Bill 1, the new version of the Higher Education Destruction Act (SB 83 from the 135th OGA), is moving, with a hearing in the Senate Higher Education Committee on February 11th.

This bill falsely claims to “fix” higher education by limiting diversity, equity, and inclusion, hindering free speech, gutting workers ' rights, and much more. If passed, the restrictions on diversity, equity, and inclusion content could result in Ohio social work programs losing CSWE accreditation and thus preventing their graduates from getting licensed!
