Meet superstar Jana Willsey! This weekend Jana will race in The Cuyamaca 100k Ultra-Marathon, her first 100k race. Good luck, Jana!
What's your goal for this race?
I have a few time goals, but ultimately to finish with a smile on my face!
How many ultras and marathons have you done?
This will be my first 100k. I have completed two trail marathons, a 50k and a 50-miler.
What type of training have you done to prepare for this race?
While training for a race, my weekly mileage is between 80 and 100 miles per week. My biggest workouts are on the weekend, when I try to get in two long back-to-back trail runs. Mondays and Fridays are always easy days, and one day a week I hop on a treadmill to try to get some vertical work in.
How do you implement dry needling and chiropractic care into your training?
During high intensity training weeks, I try to see Christina once a week on my rest day. I try to get treated proactively, to work out any minor issues or imbalances before they turn into injuries.
Do you think needling has changed the way you recover from long training miles and trails?
Absolutely! Dry needling has really helped me recover from trail runs, where the smaller muscles in my lower legs get beat up on the technical terrain. In addition, dry needling has helped with my chronically tight hip flexors from working a desk job. I have noticed a huge difference in my stride and ability to stay injury free since we incorporated dry needling for my hip flexors.
