Dr. Emily WH Therapy • Consultation • Training | Affirming care for neurodivergent & gender-diverse adolescents, adults & families

Working with kids, teens, families and adults in Central Ohio has been a tremendous privilege for me over the past 20 years. As a Professional Clinical Counselor, I count it a sacred responsibility to walk alongside you and your family during some of life's greatest challenges. Whether you or your child is facing depression, anxiety, academic problems, anger issues, family changes, recovery from sexual abuse, grief and loss, or any one of the numerous struggles that face us today, there is hope. I received my Masters in Clinical Counseling from Ashland University and am currently finishing up my PhD in School Psychology from The Ohio State University, and my goal is to provide counseling services that will support you or your child on your journey to create your own healthy futures. I look forward to getting to know you and your family.

Yesterday was Trans Day of Remembrance.

Today, I’m holding space for the trans and gender-expansive individuals and families in our community who face fear, misunderstanding, and discrimination every day.

In my work, I’m committed to offering care that is:
🌿 affirming
🌿 identity-supportive
🌿 trauma-informed
🌿 grounded in safety and dignity

If you or someone you love is navigating gender identity, neurodivergence, or both, you’re not alone, and you’re deeply valued. 💜

🌈 “My child marches to the beat of their own drum…” 🥁

It’s something I hear often, and it’s one of the most beautiful things a parent can say.

Autism and gender diversity often overlap, and that intersection can be both complex and incredibly powerful. Research shows autistic individuals are 3–6x more likely to identify as gender-diverse, but what matters most isn’t the numbers, it’s belonging.

When kids are given room to be fully themselves, without pressure to fit a mold, they show amazing authenticity, creativity, and empathy. When that space is missing, anxiety and isolation often follow.

💚 What helps most?

🤝 Collaboration between home, school, and clinicians
🌿 Communities that understand and support diverse identities

Every young person deserves to feel safe and celebrated exactly as they are.

🌈 Neurodivergent and Gender Diverse -> Not Rare, Just Overlooked 🌿

Did you know that neurodivergent individuals, especially those with autism, are significantly more likely than their neurotypical peers to identify as gender diverse?

For many, these identities aren’t separate, they shape how a person experiences the world, communicates, and builds connection. Yet too often, our systems (schools, healthcare, workplaces) don’t recognize or affirm that overlap.

My work and research focus on understanding and amplifying the voices of neurodivergent and gender-diverse folks, highlighting both the challenges they face and the incredible strengths they bring to our communities.

Every person deserves spaces that see them clearly and support them fully. 💚

🌿 Exciting Update! 🌿

I’m so glad to share that my practice has a new name and an expanded focus!
✨ Dr. Emily WH | Therapy • Consultation • Training

While many of you have known me as Emily Heselton Counseling for years, with the completion of my doctorate, my practice has re-launched as Dr. Emily WH (Wojniak-Heselton) to reflect both my personal growth and the expanded services I now offer.

In addition to individual therapy, I now offer consultation, professional training, and (in collaboration) psychological evaluations.

I remain passionate about supporting adolescents, adults, families, and professionals, with a special focus on creating inclusive spaces for neurodivergent and gender diverse individuals.

I’ve also moved to a beautiful new office in Dublin, OH! 🌟
