🎭💜💛💚 Mardi Gras at Darby Glenn!💚💛💜🎭

Laissez les bons temps rouler! Darby Glenn turned up the music Tuesday and brought the spirit of Mardi Gras right into our hallways! 🎶✨

Our residents enjoyed festive Mardi Gras music as we paraded down the halls, spreading joy, beads, and big smiles for everyone to see. The energy was contagious, and the celebration brought so much laughter and excitement throughout the community!

We ended our special event with a delicious Southern-inspired feast:
🍲 Flavorful jambalaya
🌽 Crispy fried okra
🥖 Golden hush puppies
🥚 Deviled eggs dressed in festive purple
🎂 And of course… a sweet and colorful king cake!

Moments like these remind us that celebrations bring us together, create lasting memories, and fill our community with joy. At Darby Glenn, we don’t just celebrate holidays — we create experiences!

🐿️ Groundhog Day Fun at Darby Glenn!🌤️

Yesterday at Darby Glenn, we celebrated Groundhog Day with a spirited Groundhog Day race! Our staff was definitely rooting for an early spring… but unfortunately, that wasn’t the verdict from our groundhog. ❄️😄

Even though winter may be sticking around a little longer, the laughter, teamwork, and smiles made the day a win. Thank you to everyone who joined in and helped make this a fun and memorable moment for our community! 💙

Black History Month Recognition! 🤎👊🏾

We proudly recognize Fatou Bittaye-Kaloko, whose journey reflects dedication, compassion, and the enduring pursuit of a dream. Born in The Gambia, Fatou immigrated to the United States in 2003 to pursue a career in healthcare.

With over 20 years of service, including 5 years as a Healthcare Aide and 15 years (and counting) as an Activities Director, Fatou has devoted her career to enhancing the quality of life for those she serves. Her work brings joy, connection, and purpose to residents each day, creating meaningful moments that uplift spirits and foster strong relationships. Through her dedication, she has developed exceptional communication skills and continues to make a lasting impact on the well-being of her residents.

Fatou’s passion is evident in the smiles she brings to the faces of those in her care. She takes great pride in her work and remains committed to enriching the lives of her residents through engaging activities and compassionate service.

Fatou also honors her heritage, proudly recognizing Kunta Kinte, famously depicted in Roots, who was born in Juffureh, The Gambia, and was captured in 1767 near the Gambia River before being transported to Annapolis, Maryland aboard a slave ship. His story represents resilience and the unbreakable spirit of a people—values that continue to inspire generations today.

Some people don’t just do a job—they pour their hearts into it. Today, we want to honor three extraordinary women who bring love, laughter, purpose, and light to Darby Glenn every single day: Fatou, our Activities Director; Kassie, our Activities Assistant; and Luciana, our Activities Assistant.

For 20 years, Fatou has given her heart to the Foundations family. Her leadership is rooted in compassion, her creativity is endless, and her love for our residents is felt in every moment she creates. She doesn’t just plan activities—she creates memories, restores joy, and reminds our residents that they are deeply valued and loved. Her dedication has shaped Darby Glenn in ways that words can’t fully express.

Kassie, a part of the Foundations family for 7 years, brings pure joy wherever she goes. Her laughter is contagious, her kindness is genuine, and her ability to connect with residents on a personal level is truly special. She has a gift for making people feel seen, heard, and cherished—and that gift shines through in everything she does.

With 9 years of service, Luciana has touched countless hearts with her warmth and compassion. Whether she’s leading a group activity or sitting quietly with a resident who needs comfort, she gives her time, her energy, and her heart freely. She creates a sense of family and belonging that turns Darby Glenn into a true home.

Together, these three women are more than a team—they are the heartbeat of our community. They turn ordinary days into meaningful moments, fill our halls with laughter, and bring comfort, connection, and purpose to the lives of our residents.

❄️🥞 Blizzard Outside, Warm Hearts Inside 🥞❄️

After fighting through the blizzard to make it safely to work, our amazing team was greeted with the sweetest surprise! 💙

Our incredible Dietary Manager, Erin, went above and beyond by making homemade pancakes for National Pancake Day, followed by a warm, delicious lunch—all to say thank you to our staff for showing up and continuing to provide exceptional care for our residents.

Moments like these remind us that even on the coldest days, teamwork, appreciation, and kindness make Darby Glenn feel like home. 🏡✨

Today, our residents put on their chef hats for Senior Chef Day, and it was such a fun and tasty experience! Everyone who attended got to make their very own pizza, choosing exactly which toppings they wanted. From classic favorites to creative combinations, each pizza was as unique as the resident who made it.

The best part? They’re enjoying their homemade pizzas for supper! Moments like these bring joy, creativity, and delicious memories to our community. 💛🍕
