Good morning!
Have you missed eden?
It has been a long while since I've been able to bring you ideas for a healthier you. During that time I have experienced some vital insights in to caring for self without becoming self-ish. I hope to share with you some ways you can help "you" become more relaxed, youthful, and healthy.
In our busy lives we tend to think of others first and put ourselves on the back shelf. In theory, that seems like a good idea, but in reality we tend to work ourselves to the bone without any refreshment only to become ill, and not be able to care for the things we think are important.
If you have ever flown on an airplane, you will hear the flight attendant give a dissertation about safety. In that instruction we are told that if the oxygen mask drops, we should put it on ourselves FIRST. The reason for this is so that we can be safe while caring for others if needs must.
It is the same way with life. If we don't have our oxygen masks on, we will eventually become lifeless and unable to be of assistance.
You may find that maudlin, but is it so true. You will suffocate without self-care.
Think about your life and what you are doing besides caring for YOU. Children? Work? Caring for an elderly parent? Meeting the demands of a busy home? Taxi driver? Child psychologist?
And when you finally fall into bed, does your brain kick into over drive to plan everything for the next day, week, month?
When you live like this, your adrenal glands take a beating. You are constantly in "fight or flight" mode. Let's stop the madness and work on "woosaw", calmness, peace, tranquility...if for only a few minutes a day to begin.
Today, think about a quite place in your home where you can escape. It may be your bedroom, a place with a comfy chair in your yard, your car, or even your bathroom. A place where you will not be bothered for at least 15 minutes. In that time, close your eyes and relax every muscle in your body. Breathe deeply and calmly. Listen to your heart relaxing and your mind winding down. You will feel the calm wash over you like a warm ocean wave. Try not to think of home, work, kids, spouses or what you are having for dinner. Give this time to refreshment.
When you have accomplished that, try to incorporate it into your schedule every day. Perhaps you can find a little more time on the weekends to treat yourself to a self care routine.
Remember, when YOU are refreshed, you can serve others better because you are calmer, stronger, and more in tune with life.
Try it. What have you got to lose?
