Walk with a Doc was started in 2005 by Dr. David Sabgir, a cardiologist in Columbus, Ohio. Frustrated with his inability to affect behavior change in the clinical setting, Dr. Sabgir invited his patients to go for a walk with him in a local park on a spring Saturday morning. To his surprise, over 100 people showed up, energized and ready to move. Since that first event in 2005, Walk with a Doc has grown as a grassroots effort, with a model based on sustainability and simplicity. A doctor gives a brief presentation on a health topic and then leads participants on a walk at their own pace. Healthy snacks, coffee and blood pressure checks are an optional part of a Walk with a Doc event. The Walk added an Executive Director in 2009 and focused on building a program that could easily be implemented by interested doctors in other cities around the country. As a result of these efforts, the reach of Walk with a Doc now extends all around the globe with over 500 chapters worldwide! Walking was recognized by the former Surgeon General of the United States of America as one of the single most important things we can do for our health. Will you join us in making health and happiness accessible for all?

Last Call for Year-End Giving! This year alone, we were able to launch 218 new Walk with a Doc programs - our biggest year since the program began in 2005.

This growth would not be possible without the generous donors who help keep our walks free and accessible for everyone.

Thank you for considering a year-end gift to help carry this momentum into 2026. https://funraise.org/give/Just-Walk-Inc./55888dcb-07ff-4aad-afbe-9d47be24429f/

"We are having such great turnouts and a whole lot of fun!" says Dr. Irina Ghenea, who launched a Walk with a Doc chapter in North Sydney, Nova Scotia earlier this year.

Through lifestyle medicine, Dr. Ghenea connects physical activity and nutrition to everyday health, keeping walkers engaged and motivated month after month.

With fun monthly challenges and a strong sense of community, this chapter is turning healthy habits into something people truly look forward to.

We're excited to announce that we just onboarded our 200th new chapter of the year, making 2025 the largest single-year expansion in Walk with a Doc's program history. πŸŽ‰

That’s 200 groups of doctors, clinics, and hospitals volunteering their time every month to walk with their patients and community.

These new communities span 16 countries and 40 U.S. states, all joining the global Walk with a Doc movement to make health more accessible, social, and fun. Huge thanks to our incredible leaders and walkers who make this possible every single day. πŸ’š

Here’s to transforming healthcare, one step at a time! πŸ‘Ÿ

Walking: the "miracle drug" with zero co-pay, unlimited refills, and a name you can pronounce without remixing a hit song from the '80s. But watch out for those side effects! πŸ˜‰πŸ’šπŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ

Our Story

Walk with a Doc inspires communities through movement and conversation. With an aim to make hope and well-being accessible to all, Walk with a Doc offers a simple, sustainable population-health solution. Healthcare providers ditch their white coats in favor of a ball cap and sneakers. There’s laughter, education, and communication on a level that is altering the healthcare landscape.
