“Omg I have never smelt so bad in my life” I’ve heard it so many times! Drop a 💀 if you thought the same thing postpartum! But don’t worry mama. It has a purpose.

Postpartum BO. Why? Well short answer, your hormones. But there’s so much more.
•
You are sweating WAY more than ever before because your body had so much extra fluid during pregnancy. You actually GAIN about 45% more blood during pregnancy for you and baby. So extra blood, swelling, and not to mention any fluids you got during birth. So your body needs to get rid of it! Sweating is one way your body excretes water!
•
Now why does is smell? Well this is a really cool biological reason. Because your armpit is right by where baby needs to go for food! So your sweat glands release a strong smell so baby can easily find milk! (Ps this extra smell will continue all through breastfeeding).
•
Also, let’s not discount the laying in, that is so necessary to healing postpartum, making showering less frequent.

So, mama, you are not crazy. You do smell. But at least it has a purpose!
