In John 5, we read about a man who couldn’t walk. “When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, ‘Do you want to get well?’” (John 5:6). The man’s response was surprising. He gave Jesus an excuse based on the fact that no one would help him. Isn’t it amazing that the man was so focused on what others needed to do that he almost missed what Jesus could do?

Jesus instructed him to get up, pick up his mat and walk — and “at once the man was cured” (John 5:9, NIV). The healing didn’t involve anyone but the man and Jesus.

The other healing miracle is found in John 9 and focuses on a blind man. In this story, the disciples wanted to know whose actions caused the man’s blindness. Surely someone was at fault.

But Jesus said, “This happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him” (John 9:3, NIV). Jesus then spat on the ground, mixed up some mud, rubbed it on the blind man’s eyes, and instructed him to go and wash in the pool of Siloam. Notice that Jesus didn’t make healing contingent on other people doing or owning anything.

Jesus gave the instruction. The blind man obeyed. Jesus healed. The man moved forward.

Moving forward and seeing beyond our current darkness is between us and the Lord. We don’t need to wait for others to do anything. We must simply obey what God is asking of us right now. God has given us a new way to walk. And God has given us a new way to see.

My emotional healing is my choice. And your healing? It’s with the utmost compassion that I say your healing is your choice too. I know how incredibly hard all of this is. But we can heal. We can forgive. We can trust God. And none of those beautiful realities can be held hostage by another person.

Direct your children onto the right path, and when they are older, they will not leave it.” – Proverbs 22:6 (NLT)

It’s here. The first day of school. (And if it’s not today or already past, it’s coming soon!)

Some kids woke up ready to go, backpacks packed days ago. Others dragged themselves out of bed, still half-asleep. Some parents cried dropping off their kindergartener. Others cheered as the bus pulled away. Teachers have been prepping classrooms. Administrators have been organizing schedules. And homeschool parents are trying to figure out how many times they can microwave their coffee before it just tastes like regret.

Whether you love this time of year or feel a little overwhelmed by it, the start of school is a big deal - and it’s the perfect time to pray.

So here’s a simple guide to help you pray today - for the students, the teachers, the leaders, and the families in our community.

Pray for Students

Ask God to give them peace, confidence, and remind them their worth isn’t in test scores or friend groups - it’s in who God says they are.
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus.” – Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)
Jesus, help our students walk into school knowing they’re not alone. Give them confidence when they feel unsure, strength when things get hard, and help them shine Your light in their schools.

Pray for Teachers

Pray for energy, wisdom, and patience (because let’s be honest, they need all three).
“So encourage each other and build each other up…” – 1 Thessalonians 5:11 (NLT)
God, thank You for teachers who show up and pour into kids day after day. Fill them with encouragement and energy. Help them to know they’re making a difference - especially on the hard days.

Pray for Administrators and Staff

Pray for wise decisions, calm under pressure, and the ability to lead well.
“If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you.” – James 1:5 (NLT)
Lord, for every principal, counselor, nurse, bus driver, lunch server, and coach - give them what they need today. Help them see the big picture and know that You’re using them in powerful ways.

Pray for Parents and Guardians

Ask for peace in the chaos, trust in the unknown, and grace in the day-to-day.
“Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” – 1 Peter 5:7 (NLT)
Jesus, this day comes with a lot of emotions. Some parents are nervous, others are relieved. Either way, help them trust You with their kids. Be in the conversations, the pickups, and the unexpected moments today.

And for Homeschool Families

Pray for strength, creativity, and a whole lot of patience.
Lord, bless the homes that have become classrooms. Give parents the grace to lead well and enjoy the moments in between the math lessons and science experiments. Be their peace and their pace this year.

Wherever you are today - whether you’re a student, a parent, a teacher, or just someone who cares - take a moment to pray. It doesn’t have to be fancy or formal. Just talk to God. He’s already in the schools, the homes, the hallways, and the hearts of everyone heading into this year.

Let’s start the school year with Jesus at the center.

Whatever it takes,

Adam

We're excited to offer a new support group for women starting this fall! This group will meet Monday nights, beginning Sept 8th Ridge, 2800 Bonnell Rd.
"She Rises" is a sacred journey of rediscovering identity, value, and grace. Designed for women seeking healing from trauma, emotional wounds, or the effects of past abuse, this group offers a safe, faith-filled space where hearts and minds can begin to mend.🩷
Many come carrying hidden hurts, unspoken wounds, and shattered dreams — pieces of their story often held in silence. She Rises invites each woman to bring those burdens into the light of God's love and begin to see herself not through the pain of the past, but through the truth of who she is in Christ.🫶
Through Scripture, guided reflection, and authentic conversation, this group creates space for restoration — where false labels are laid down, dignity is reclaimed, and transformation begins. God is a compassionate and protective Father who holds every tear, walks with us through the valley, and lovingly calls His daughters to rise — stronger, freer, and deeply rooted in His love.🌱🌻
"God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day." — Psalm 46:5

Did you know that your teen's brain is still developing until their mid-20s? One of the key areas growing right now is the prefrontal cortex – the part of the brain responsible for decision-making, impulse control, and planning.🌱

How can we support this incredible journey?🧠

Encourage healthy habits – good sleep, regular exercise, and balanced meals fuel brain growth.

Open communication – keep conversations flowing. Teens need guidance and support, not just rules.

Patience is key – understanding that impulsive behaviors and emotional swings are part of the developmental process helps us support them better.

Positive outlets – encourage creativity, problem-solving activities, and hobbies that engage their growing minds.

Let’s help our teens thrive in this transformative phase of life! 💡✨
