Nationwide Children’s mission is to keep children healthy and safe. Vaccines are one of the most effective tools we have to prevent serious illness, hospitalization, and death in children.

The previous U.S. childhood vaccine schedule was based on decades of scientific research and designed to protect children at the ages when they are most vulnerable. Reducing vaccine coverage would leave children unprotected against diseases the U.S. has largely contained through widespread immunization.

We remain committed to helping families make informed decisions about their child’s health. Families and caregivers should talk to their child's pediatrician about any questions or concerns. Vaccines save lives, and our focus will always be on protecting children and promoting their well-being.

🦋 Meet Lily!

Lily was nearly two years old when she was diagnosed with cataracts and was gradually losing her sight.

Lily’s parents felt scared, frustrated and unsure where to turn next. Knowing their daughter needed specialized care, they made the choice to transfer Lily’s care to Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

“Once we came to Nationwide Children’s, everything changed. We finally felt confident that Lily was getting the care she needed," shared Lily's mom.

Shortly after turning two, Lily began seeing Dr. Catherine Jordan in Ophthalmology. Within a month, Lily had her cataract removed and a personalized care plan was put in place.

Today, Lily is six years old, her eyesight has improved tremendously and she is seeing the world more clearly!

👋 Meet Nehemiah.

After Nehemiah transitioned from breastfeeding to baby food at the age of 8 months, his mother, Logan, started noticing eczema-like rashes on his skin. Upon switching to formula and regular milk, Nehemiah fell ill several times a day. Alarmed by this, Logan sought medical advice and was advised to try a sensitive formula, but this did not improve his condition.

One morning, after having scrambled eggs and cereal for breakfast, Nehemiah became lethargic, and his face turned purple. Acting swiftly, Logan called 911, and Nehemiah was rushed to Nationwide Children’s Hospital where it was discovered that he might have gone into anaphylactic shock due to an allergy.

Following this experience, Nehemiah was referred to the Allergy Clinic at Nationwide Children’s. Tests revealed that Nehemiah had numerous food allergies. Despite the diagnosis, Nehemiah continued to fall ill and was severely underweight.

At the suggestion of his allergist, Nehemiah underwent an upper endoscopy with a biopsy of his esophagus to test for a potential stomach disease. The results confirmed that Nehemiah had eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), a chronic inflammatory condition of the esophagus. Immediate intervention involved a strict diet and medication to manage the inflammation.

Today, Nehemiah continues to adhere to a strict diet, avoiding allergens and triggers for his condition, but no longer requires medication. He is regularly monitored by the EoE Program at Nationwide Children’s. Despite his challenges, Nehemiah remains a cheerful, bright, and resilient child!
