Welcome to “Muscle Monday”. Every Monday you can learn a little more about your horses body through this series! Be sure to follow along for a different muscle each Monday!
Today’s muscle is the “Trapezius”. Learn more below! ⬇️⬇️⬇️
The equine trapezius is a large superficial muscle located along the upper neck and withers, connecting to the shoulder blade. It helps lift, stabilize, and move the scapula, allowing free motion of the front leg and proper posture. This muscle is essential for collection, shoulder movement, and carrying a rider comfortably. Soreness in the trapezius is common due to poor saddle fit, overuse, or compensation from other issues, and can lead to shortened stride, resistance, or sensitivity at the withers. Proper conditioning, correct saddle fit, stretching, and regular bodywork help keep the trapezius healthy and functioning well.
