Ines and Jim raced in a Mixed Masters Double today at the Carnegie Regatta. They had a strong start and a powerful, synchronized row—catching together and driving down the course with focus and determination.

From her early days at WCR, Ines has been a natural stroke, so it was only fitting that she held that seat today.

This was a milestone moment for Ines—her first official Masters event after several years of participating in survivor exhibition races. Her dedication to refining technique and applying power with precision is truly remarkable—and so is she. She inspires me every day, and I was incredibly proud to be on the sidelines (along with Karin) to witness this moment.

Result: 4th place (Raw Time) / 5th Overall
A proud moment for Ines—and a job well done by both Ines and Jim!

And that red lipstick? Visable from Lane 1 - and would have been from Lane 6 too. This wasn’t just a race. It was a statement - I’m HERE!💪

We Can Row Philly showed up strong on this summer Saturday on July 12.
Doris and Emily helped out with the new Learn to Row crew. Doris looked confident in the cox seat and Emily steered everyone in the right direction from seat 2.
Susan and Megan beautifully bowed their quads down the river and didn’t let the traffic discourage them from having fun .

Diamond States Regatta 2025

Another Diamond States is in the books—and what a fun day it was! We raced two quads this year: Jill, Denise, Shannon, and Sue, and Ines, Bonnie, Emily, and Janet. For some, it was their first sprint race; for others, their fourth.

The conditions were hot and humid, but that didn’t stop us from bringing our best energy to the water.

It was also wonderful to have both current and former coaches with us today. Huge thanks to Coach Margie, and to Coach Marsha and Julie Edmiston, who coached WCR in 2022 and played a key role in organizing the Survivor Race - The Helen F. Graham Cancer Survivor 4x race - that emphasizes camaraderie beyond just competition.

More than medals or finishes, it's the memories we make and the friendships we build that matter most. Here’s to heart, grit, and the people who make it all worthwhile! 🩷

A Great Day on the Water – National Learn to Row Day Recap

A fantastic time was had by all at National Learn to Row Day! Our participants had an amazing experience out on the water, and it was wonderful to see so much enthusiasm—and so many smiles!

WCR was incredibly well represented. Our amazing volunteers (and WBC members) went above and beyond to ensure everything ran smoothly. From helping on the dock and bringing delicious food to sharing rowing tips and encouragement, your support truly made the day a success.

Mother nature smiled on us for the most part, with only a light midday rain (aka liquid sunshine 😀☀️🌧️) that did nothing to dampen anyone’s spirits. And of course, the post-row BBQ and camaraderie were the perfect way to wrap up a great day.

This is always a fun event! A great oppportunity to connect with WBC members. If you missed this years there’s always next year! And the pumpkin regatta in the fall 👍

From co founding We Can Row to coaching, designing logos, recruiting new members, and cheering us on—even from across the ocean in Italy—you are the heart of this team. You show up at the oar and off the water, always encouraging us to stay active, strong, and connected. Your energy, support, and belief in the power of rowing inspire us every day.

Here’s to you, Dale—thank you for everything you do, and we hope your birthday is as incredible as you are!

"Weigh Enough" Wednesday!
We're so glad Megan was able to join us for rowing on Monday night — a rare treat since work usually keeps her away on Mondays! It was wonderful to see her, and especially meaningful for our newbies to meet her. We’ve all missed her cheerfulness and that bright smile. Let's give our sister Megan some love!

Monday night 5/26
Another beautiful night and we had the river to ourselves. Calm waters made ideal for single rowers and to intoduce our newbies to sweep rowing.

Emily and Kathy were in singles (Kathy’s first time!). Thanks Emily for helping Kathy navigate the waters and staying with her. That’s what we do for each other in WCR. Both were zipping along in no time and Kathy was able to point out the drone while rowing! 😀👍

In the 8+ we rowed by pairs, on the square and feather, then by 4s.The group consensus was a thumbs up for sweeping! Dale - maybe we have to take out an 8+ more often 😍👍

Weigh Enough Wednesdays"
In rowing "weigh enough" means to stop rowing completely and bring the boat to a standstill. The command is often pronounced "way nuff". When this post drops on Wednesdays and its seen, we hope that people will stop for a moment in their day to read amazing another story. Doris was inspired by Sue's share to write her own. Let's show our sister Doris some love!

Monday night 5/19
Welcome back Dale - glad you are back in the house! - your seat has been waiting. 🥰

It was a big group with 5 quads and the Sam I Am. In the double it was Judy and Michelle - rowing seamlessly together. Michelle is working on her PhD in special education, and finished her first year. You rock Michelle! 🎉👏😍

Shout out to our stroke seats!! - Denise, Kate, Shannon, Kathy, Indre and Michelle - in setting a nice steady rate to enable our newbies (and returning members) a nice even pace to follow. 😍👏

Note: We will be having our session on Memorial Day! Hope to see you! We always have fun!
