Financial Designs is currently looking for an Insurance Claims Coordinator in Miami, FL to join their growing team! This is a full time position Monday thru Friday 9am - 5:30pm

The Insurance Claims Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and supporting initiatives relative to the evalution, processing, and handling of insurance claims for clients.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

- Act as a liaison between the organization, its insurance provider and agents, claimants, and policy holders regarding status and eligibility for coverage for all relevant claims.
- Review claims to make sure that billing requirements are met.
- Answers inquiries and makes recommendations for resolution.
- Update accounts as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

- High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate Degree preferred.
- Must be Bilingual in English/Spanish.
- 1-3 years of related experience.
- Ability to read and interpret medical, drug and procedure manuals.
- Knowledge of Word Perfect and Lotus preferred.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize and manage time effectively.
- Excellent communication and organization skills.
- Strong phone contact handling skills and active listening.
- Customer orientation and ability to adapt/respond to different types of characters.

The American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) is the latest bill that was signed into law by President Biden to address the ongoing economic impact of Covid-19.

The new extension takes effect on 4/1 and will last until 9/30/21. Like the current version, this remains OPTIONAL. Tax credits will be available but only to employers with fewer than 500 employees.

Here are the key changes to Emergency Paid Sick Leave and when they apply:

1. To receive the vaccine and to recover from side effects.
2. When seeking or waiting for Covid diagnosis or test result
3. Will receive a new bank of leave of 80 hours effective 4/1 for full time and prorated amount for part time.

Changes to Emergency Family and Medical leave and what they apply:

1. The 10 day unpaid period has been eliminated and therefore can receive 2/3 pay of the regular rate.
2. Can be used for any of the reasons above in addition to childcare reasons.

Employers and employees will- in many scenarios- want to apply EMergency Paid Leave first, since it has a higher tax credit, except when used to care for others in which case Emergency Family Leave would be applied.

The FFCRA (Families First Coronavirus Response Act), which has required employers with less than 500 employees to provide sick and family leave benefits for Covid-19 is due to expire on 12/31/2020.

Many believed the leave would extend until 2021 as part of the pandemic relief package that President Trump signed on 12/27/2020 but unfortunately these provisions were ultimately not extended which means employers will no longer be required to provide leave under the FFCRA after 12/31.

However, the package does extend the FFCRA tax credit which reimbursed the employers for the cost of providing FFCRA leave through 3/31/2021.

As a result, employers are no longer required to provide FFRCA but those who volunteer to may utilize payroll tax credits to cover the cost of benefits paid to employers through 3/31/2021.

Employees all over will be eligible to enter their ballot on November 3rd, but the question remains, does everyone have enough time to vote when working full time?

With Election Day literally around the corner, employers should keep in mind that, while no federal law has been passed to provide employees leave to vote, many states have executed laws in this area.

Florida currently does not have laws pertaining to voting leave for employees; but it is good practice to let employees take up to two-three hours of paid leave to vote if there is not enough time for the employee to vote outside of their working hours.

Getting to the polls can be hard for many employees as they also juggle other responsibilities such as taking care of children and household duties.

“About 4 in 10 eligible voters did not vote in the 2016 presidential election”, according to Nonprofit VOTE and the U.S Elections Project.

Employers who are offering Paid Time Off to be a part of civic and community activities will likely see the benefits through improved employee attitudes and performance.

On August 8th, 2020, President Trump directed an order to allow employers to defer the withholding, deposit, and payment of certain payroll tax obligations. specifically, the employee’s portion of withholding of social security taxes.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The action allows, but does not require, employers to postpone payroll taxes for the period starting Sept. 1 thru Dec. 31, 2020. Employers would then be required to remit the deferred taxes between Jan. 1 and April 30, 2021.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Following the direction of Trump’s memo, the payroll tax holiday only applies to individuals with wages below a bi-weekly threshold of $4,000 or $104K annually.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
From our understanding (and this will most likely be modified in the upcoming weeks), the employers have the choice to opt-in or out. If an employer chooses to opt in, the employee is required to partake in the tax deferral and will possibly face that their taxes be doubly withheld from 1/1/2021 thru 4/31/21.

This could provide relief for employees for the time being but could create a significant hardship for them in 2021.

2 years ago today I left the Corporate world to focus full time on my HR business.

Wow - I can’t believe it’s been 2 years!! Being on my own was something I always wanted to do but I was always waiting for the right time... newsflash there isn’t a right time ever... the right time is today... you take that leap and hope for the best while you work your butt off to make it happen.

Has it been easy?? Heck no.... has it been worth it?? You have no idea ☺️

For me, this is my calling. I love Human Resources so much I don’t call it a career I call it part of my life and part of who I am today.

There is a saying that I’ve heard multiple times and that is “success leaves clues” and one of those ways is through books.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Books help in so many ways when becoming an entrepreneur. They can tap into the minds of inspirational people, provide developing skills, obtain tips we had not thought of and lastly provide new business strategies.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This book has done just that for me. One great advice was given in a chapter that spoke about hiring staff. The CEO of a successful business turned over hiring to his staff when he had no time to conduct interviews. He stated that his staff had to rate the candidates 1-10; his only requirement is that the could not rate anyone a 7. If you rate something as a 7 then you are more likely to feel obligated to give it a chance but if you have to decide between a 6 or an 8, it is a lot easier to determine whether this candidate was a good fit for the position. Such great advice in just one paragraph.

What an impact the coronavirus pandemic has had on not only our personal lives but our businesses.

But there might be some hope for some business to start opening back up starting on Monday for many parts of the US.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When that does occur and businesses try to create a new normal, many employers will need to ramp up on staffing - and more quickly than they might expect.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here are tips that could help in the process:

1. Make a plan on what the future might look like. In other words, how will the new norm be?
2. Reach out to a HR consultant to assist and answer any questions on how to move forward with recruitment or new policies you might need to adapt to the changes in the world.
3. Enhance your recruiting process.
4. Assess the positions you previously had and re-evaluate if they are still needed.
5. Update job descriptions.
6. Look within the employees you still have or needed to furlough and evaluate their skills to see if they fit in other roles.
7. Review past employees that resigned in previous years to see if they would like to return.
8. Most importantly, this is a second chance to evaluate what was working, what was not, and to make those changes now.
