Matriarchal leadership is rooted in power with, not power over. It is collective wisdom, embodied intelligence, and long-view thinking that offers an alternative to the rise in authoritarianism.

I’ve been thinking about what matriarchal leadership means and how to uplift it. If this is something you’re curious about too, let me know and I’ll put some time and energy into researching more!

Oh the 2am replay spiral… if only I’d said this! I can’t believe I said THAT. What did she mean when she said… it goes on and on and on.

Here’s what’s happening: Your brain is trying to solve a problem that might not actually exist. It’s taking one awkward moment and turning it into evidence that you’re not cut out for *this.* (waves hands to gesture the entirety of adult life)

But what if that meeting wasn’t about your competence? What if it was just… a meeting? With humans who have their own stuff going on, their own bad days, their own 2am spirals?

Try this: When you catch yourself replaying, ask “What am I making this mean about me?” Then ask “What else could this mean?”

Maybe they seemed distracted because they’re dealing with their own crisis. Maybe that silence wasn’t judgment, maybe they were just processing. Maybe it actually went fine and your brain is just doing its job of scanning for threats.

The goal isn’t to never have awkward moments, you’re still a messy human on an imperfect journey. But you CAN stop letting them hijack your middle-of-the-night peace of mind.

Tired of your inner critic running the show? Book a discovery call (link in bio) or save this for when you need the reminder that one meeting does not define your worth. ⚡️

I coach women who have s**t to do while the world is on fire.

This afternoon I was chatting with a friend about work, life, motherhood, etc. We’re at similar places in our lives - older kids, career pivots, teetering on perimenopause - and neither of us have any time for shenanigans. We are focused, we are determined, we are ready for the world to stop being ridiculous so we can get s**t done.

And that’s when I realized, “Oh hell yeah, that’s exactly who I want to spend time with.”

These are the women who are tired of watching incompetent nincompoops get promoted, tired of being pulled in a million directions instead of focusing on their own goals, tired of doomscrolling without action steps.

I want to see these women in leadership! Look, after years of success in sales, and years of coaching women, I have lived what it takes to create growth in your personal and professional life.

So if you know this woman, or if you ARE this woman, we should probably be friends. Because we don’t have time to waste on people who won’t lift us up.

We have s**t to do and the world is on fire. 🔥

This is a hard truth, but you can’t dismantle systems if you’re too tired or too buzzed to see clearly.

Numbing out isn’t just personal, it’s political. Wine culture. Hustle culture. Perfectionism. Scrolling into oblivion. They all serve the same function: keep you too foggy, too exhausted, too distracted to stay angry, organize, and resist.

Rebel leadership isn’t about being perfect, it’s about staying awake. Staying in your body. Staying connected to your rage and your power.

The system benefits when you check out. Your clarity is dangerous to the status quo.

So: what are you numbing? And what becomes possible when you don’t?

“We should be asking ourselves why women are so stressed out and look at the bigger social structures that cause her to want to drink in the first place.

We should be asking who it serves to have women and mothers making themselves more sick, tired, anxious, and depressed, instead of clear-headed, focused, and able to raise our fists and burn the fu***ng system to the ground.

THAT’s how alcohol is a tool of oppression.“

This week’s Rebel Leader’s Substack post is my structural critique of alcohol - I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Without a doubt, the subject I write about that gets the most response is when I share my thoughts on alcohol as a tool of oppression, and why my decision not to drink is a an activist choice.

This week on the Rebel Leaders Substack I’m laying out the structural critique of alcohol. Next week I’ll share my personal journey of why and how I went alcohol-free in 2020!
