This is a hard truth, but you can’t dismantle systems if you’re too tired or too buzzed to see clearly.

Numbing out isn’t just personal, it’s political. Wine culture. Hustle culture. Perfectionism. Scrolling into oblivion. They all serve the same function: keep you too foggy, too exhausted, too distracted to stay angry, organize, and resist.

Rebel leadership isn’t about being perfect, it’s about staying awake. Staying in your body. Staying connected to your rage and your power.

The system benefits when you check out. Your clarity is dangerous to the status quo.

So: what are you numbing? And what becomes possible when you don’t?

“We should be asking ourselves why women are so stressed out and look at the bigger social structures that cause her to want to drink in the first place.

We should be asking who it serves to have women and mothers making themselves more sick, tired, anxious, and depressed, instead of clear-headed, focused, and able to raise our fists and burn the fu***ng system to the ground.

THAT’s how alcohol is a tool of oppression.“

This week’s Rebel Leader’s Substack post is my structural critique of alcohol - I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Without a doubt, the subject I write about that gets the most response is when I share my thoughts on alcohol as a tool of oppression, and why my decision not to drink is a an activist choice.

This week on the Rebel Leaders Substack I’m laying out the structural critique of alcohol. Next week I’ll share my personal journey of why and how I went alcohol-free in 2020!

I’m full of rage and fury this week, in between fetching tissues and water.
