For millions battling long COVID, answers have been elusive, until now. A groundbreaking study has identified 65 fragments of the SARS-CoV-2 replication protein Pp1ab lingering in patients’ blood, months after the initial infection. These viral “ghost proteins” were tucked away inside tiny extracellular vesicles, suggesting the virus leaves behind hidden traces that may continue to disrupt the body.

Researchers found these viral remnants in patients suffering from persistent symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, and shortness of breath. Interestingly, the proteins didn’t always appear consistently, hinting that stressors such as physical exertion could trigger their release into the bloodstream.

This discovery could become a turning point: if confirmed in larger studies, Pp1ab fragments may serve as the first measurable biomarker for long COVID. That means earlier diagnosis, better treatment, and much-needed clarity for those struggling with this condition.

Does Your Metabolism Really Slow Down with Age? 🧐

Yes… but not exactly how you think!

Your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) does drop as you get older.
👉 That’s the number of calories your body burns at rest just to keep you alive — breathing, circulating blood, repairing cells, etc.

But here’s the truth:
It’s not just about age. It’s about what’s happening inside your body over time. 🧬💪

As we get older, we naturally lose muscle — and the muscle we do keep becomes less efficient due to:

⚡ Slower energy production (aging mitochondria)
🧠 Weaker signals between brain & muscle
🔥 Hormonal shifts + chronic low inflammation
🥱 Less protein, movement & recovery

This all leads to:
➡️ Sarcopenia (muscle loss)
➡️ Dynapenia (strength loss)
…which can slow your metabolism — even if your weight stays the same!

BUT — here’s the good news! 🙌
You’re not stuck with a sluggish metabolism. You can boost it with smart, daily habits:

🏋️‍♀️ Strength training = keeps muscle strong & active
🥗 Protein-packed meals = fuel for repair & energy
🚶‍♀️💤 Daily movement + quality sleep = keeps cells efficient

Your metabolism is adaptable — not doomed!
✨ Give your body the right signals, and it’ll respond.

If you want to boost your brain power, you might want to step away from the crossword and step into your sneakers. Science now shows that physical movement is one of the most powerful tools for improving brain health. While brain games and mental challenges have their place, it’s exercise that delivers the most impactful results.

When you move your body, you increase blood flow to the brain, stimulate the growth of new neurons, and trigger positive biochemical changes. These changes directly influence gene expression linked to brain function, emotional resilience, and even disease resistance.

This connection is central to the field of epigenetics, the study of how lifestyle and environment can affect the way your genes work. Exercise does not change your genetic code, but it can turn protective genes on and harmful ones off. That means regular movement can help guard against conditions like Alzheimer’s, improve your mood, and enhance your cognitive performance at any age.

So the next time you're tempted to challenge your brain with a puzzle, consider taking a brisk walk instead. Your brain doesn’t just benefit from thinking, it thrives on movement.
