This week's is The Iron Giant (1999)

This tale of grief, responsibility, and autonomy is a powerful one, no matter how old you are. Though the film initially failed financially, it quickly became one of Western animation's most beloved and culturally critical classics, as well as one of its most sensitive on the topic of grief.

Little known fact about the origins of this story: the book this film was based on, The Iron Man: A Children's Story in Five Nights, was written by Ted Hughes. Hughes had not been a perfect husband during his marriage with Sylvia Plath, but following her tragic death, he attempted to produce work that might comfort their children and deal with their grief of their mother.

How to Trade Your Professional Suit for a Mission of Mercy | E31

What happens when a funeral director steps out of the professional suit and into a global mission of compassion?

In this episode of the Dialogues About Death Show, Chris Miller shares the unforgettable story of an encounter in Armenia with 10 Iranians, 18 Californians, and one very specific prayer that changed everything.

This is a conversation about grace, courage, and what it really means to love your neighbor.

You’ll learn why sometimes the most powerful missions begin when we stop leading with titles and start leading with mercy.

1. Hear the story behind the mission:
Chris shares a powerful real-life moment from Armenia that shows how mercy can break down fear, titles, and assumptions.

2. Learn what happens when grace shows up first:
This episode is a reminder that people are often more alike than the headlines say, and that healing can start in the most unexpected places.

3. Walk away inspired to live your own mission of mercy:
Whether you work in a profession, lead a family, or just feel stuck in your role, this conversation will challenge you to love your neighbor in a bigger way.

If you would be so kind, please share this with a friend who might be blessed with this information or have questions too, as they can get them answered during the show and it might bring them comfort.

The line is spoken by Herakles’ wife, Megara, and it is a plea for her husband's return to save them. This translation commonly is used to reflect themes of desperate love, grief, and longing. What does this quote feel like to you?

Today's is an early 2000s staple: "The House That Built Me" by Miranda Lambert

If you've never heard this song, get ready for a tear jerker. Lambert paints a picture of nostalgia and grief for a version of herself that existed in her childhood home. Many of us have experience that loss of self after moving away, or losing someone that feels like home. The memories we have are so cherished and we wish we could walk around in them just like old times.

What part of this song resonates with you most?

What song should we cover next?
