Direct support professionals (DSPs) are the backbone of disability services, supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live, work, and thrive in their communities.

Today marks the start of Direct Support Professional (DSP) Recognition Week. This year, the California State Assembly is celebrating with us! CDSA is proud to have sponsored HR 70, an Assembly House Resolution to officially declare September 7-13, 2025 as DSPRW. HR 70 honors the incredible DSPs who touch the lives of Californians with disabilities every day.

Assemblymember Dr. Joaquin Arambula , who has long been a champion for our community, partnered with CDSA to introduce this resolution in the Assembly, where it passed with 53 other Assemblymembers signing on as co-authors. Thank you, Dr. Arambula, for standing with the direct support workforce that serves Californians with disabilities!

With high temperatures this season, it’s important to take steps to stay safe.
Tips to stay cool and healthy:
• Drink water regularly to stay hydrated
• Wear light, breathable clothing
• Avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours (10 AM to 4 PM)
• Rest often and seek shade when outside
• Watch for signs of heat exhaustion like dizziness or nausea
• Monitor weather conditions in your area: weather.gov
