There is some serious magic happening in this photo!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When physiologic birth is respected and protected, it’s very common for the amniotic sac/bag of water to break on its own closer to pushing or baby’s birth. This photo captures the baby coming into the world with its bag intact! Baby is in its amniotic fluid and being born into water! 💫

From our sister midwives in Mexico City...a beautiful reminder 🦋 Can’t wait to be with you ladies Luna Maya DF on Saturday!

There’s so much beauty in this photo. A mother holding the baby she grew for so long, her baby covered in vernix or “birthday frosting”, a limp and pale cord that has given baby it’s full blood supply, warm water for a soothing environment. 😍

The peace between progress. Labor has this sweet gift for mamas. It’s the breaks between contractions. It allows you to focus on getting baby closer, then breathing, and then bringing baby a little closer. And repeat. You can rest, move, ask for support, make a joke, take a bite of food or a drink, and go right back to bringing baby down. This is one of the secrets to an unmedicated birth. Taking one contraction at a time and building strength during your breaks.

Baby’s first latch!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This sweet brand new babe knows just what it needs! You may have heard of the golden hour, allowing parents to bond with their new baby skin to skin without any interruption. Honestly? Babies should have a golden 6 weeks! About two hours after birth we perform a head to toe exam on your baby right next to you on the bed! Other than the exam, there is no reason for baby to leave your arms during a normal uncomplicated postpartum period. Visitors should be minimal so that bonding can continue, baby can nurse as needed, and milk supply can flourish.

You can feel the power through this picture. Their lives just changed!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When having a baby, it’s vital to focus on improving communication. Communication with your partner, with your circle of support, and with yourself. Knowing your needs and feelings and being able to express them clearly is especially necessary when going through big life transitions like forming a family, birthing a baby, and learning the ropes of parenting. Even if it isn’t your first baby, adding a child to your family changes dynamics and needs of the whole family. To successfully ride these waves of change and shifts in your life, you need support from your loved ones. Spend time learning yourself and allow others to know you so they can support you.

Connecting with your baby throughout your pregnancy and labor is so important to help with birth and parenting. It’s part of developing intuition, knowing what is best for you, your baby, and your family. It’s being able to work together as a team as you move your body to help baby navigate the descent through your pelvis. It’s reassuring them that things will be okay and that you’re they’re for them. It’s showing them love and sharing your hopes and dreams for their life soon to begin. Pregnancy and birth are transformative. Each time it’s new and different, just like each of your children. Spend time bonding with your baby before they come into this world, you’ll find that it helps to know them better once they’re here.
