Mission:
Women's and Men's Health Services of the Coastal Bend (WAMHS), a 501 (c) 3 not for profit organization providing
preventive health care services to 18,000 unduplicated patients annually. In addition to providing access to health
care services, the agency provides free community education and outreach programs to approximately 120,000 South
Texas residents in a nine county area, through partnerships with 170 schools, social service, juvenile justice, drug
treatment, faith-based, recreation and civic organizations. Services provided:
WAMHS clinical services include annual physicals, screening for breast, cervical and testicular cancer, screening for
STD's such as HIV, pregnancy testing, screening for diabetes, hypertension, cholesterol and treatment of chronic
conditions. The agency has experienced administrative and program staff, an effective and involved Board of Directors
and a strong financial position. WAMHS has a proven track record of successfully managing grants and providing
effective evidence-based programs.

January is Cervical Cancer awareness month, lets talk screenings!

📋 Your Guide to Pap Smears: What You Need to Know

🩺 What is it?
• A quick screening test that checks for cervical cell changes
• Takes only 3-5 minutes
• Helps prevent cervical cancer by catching changes early

⏰ When to get one:
• Start at age 21
• Every 3 years for ages 21-29
• Every 3-5 years for ages 30+ (with HPV testing)
• Ask your provider about your specific needs

✨ What to expect:
• Quick procedure done by your healthcare provider
• You’ll lay on an exam table
• A speculum is used and your provider uses a small brush or spatula to gently scrape cells from your cervix.
• Mild discomfort but shouldn’t be painful

🗣️ Remember: Regular Pap smears are one of the most effective ways to prevent cervical cancer! Early detection saves lives 💕
