Motivation has come and gone during this quarantine. At first I was determined to not let Covid-19 bring me down and soon it got to me just like it did everyone else. I didn’t want to pick up any weights. I wanted to binge watch Netflix and forget I couldn’t lift real weight in the gym. I wanted to eat junk and sweets to make me feel better because I was feeling down. I drank more. I ate more. My anxiety increased and I felt bloated all the time.
*****
But I’ve reached a little turning point in the last week or so. My mental health is something worth fighting for and I’ve been neglecting it. So I’m getting back on track with a new normal. Because I think the hardest part is holding onto the reality before all this happened. But that reality is no longer and we have to adapt to what currently is. So I’ve slowly started to eat better and enjoy working out in a different way. I’ve learned to let go of what was normal and accept that I need to create a new version of it. And these are some of my the things that have been helping me:

1. If I don’t feel like working out, I won’t. I only do it when I enjoy it and push myself further when my motivation is high
2. Make sure to move everyday for an extended period of time. Whether that’s deep cleaning or organizing in the house, washing my car or going for a nice walk outside in the sun. Anything is better than nothing and helps my body feel good
3. Eat a good breakfast to start the day. Protein and fiber are important to keep my digestive system happy and full
4. Circuit workouts to make the time pass quickly with so many reps. It also is more challenging with light weight and I hate boring workouts where I don’t push myself
5. Journal and meditate every day like it’s my religion. It helps me get organized for the day and keep my hyper-active brain in check
6. Not worrying so much about weight gain, but rather focusing on how much nutritious food I’m eating in comparison to junk food or processed food
7. Making time for new learning that I wasn’t doing before covid-19. Like trying new recipes for baking chicken or making my own oatmilk instead of buying it, or painting my own nails or looking up diy house projects

It’s not what you say out of your mouth that determines your life, it’s what you whisper to yourself that has the most power

I’ve heard many of my health coaching clients tell me a number of things: I’m not healthy. I’m just not into going to the gym. I’m not organized. I’m not that person you’re asking me to be.

But the reality is that you form who you are! Overtime and with certain habits you’ve developed a narrative. One that shapes all your other decisions. If you tell yourself you’re unhealthy and that’s just who you are, you’ll just continue to be unhealthy. If you tell yourself your unworthy of love or happiness, then you’ll find reasons to stay unhappy and create scenarios that support this claim.

But I’m here to tell you that none of it is true unless you want it to be. You are the one and true shaper of your future, but if you don’t learn how to change the narrative now and start to remind yourself of how capable or worthy you are of all the things you desire you’ll never get there.
****
So stop telling yourself all the negative bu****it and start telling yourself:
I am powerful.
I am healthy.
I can make it.
I am worthy.
I believe in me.
I am a survivor.
I am a builder.
I am whatever I want to be.

In all seriousness, my motivation is to love my friends and family with all I have and to make a lasting impact in the world. An impact that will improve the quality of life and enable people to feel empowered. Not weak, or inadequate or defeated. But empowered to live the life they want. I think too much time is spent on tearing each other down and creating false standards/ appearances. But I’m bringing back the real deal with FitSciety and I can’t wait.

What fun things have you planned for summer? I’ll be talking a weekend trip with my boyfriend at the end of this month and in July I’ll be spending the week in Lake Arrowhead to celebrate before one of my dear friends gets married. I’m super excited for both trips, as last year I didn’t take any real vacations to relax and unwind. But this year I’m making time off a priority, because I now know that time away is so key for mental health and balance. Workaholics will tell you there is no balance. But I learned from a wise entrepreneur that life and business come and go in seasons. And that you are your biggest asset. So invest in you, invest in unplugging yourself from the daily grind, so you can come back stronger and even more inspired to reach your goals. ****
