Midwives are constantly renewing and refreshing skills to stay updated on evidence, standards of care, and maintain hands on muscle memory. This weekend Midwife Leila took a trip to Virginia to renew her education for the 4th time with friends and mentors Kristine Lauria and Whitney Pinger. Midwife Laura held down the fort like a boss! 🙏

Devotion Midwifery offers breech and twin assistance in Mississippi for families who choose this option. Louisiana is still a bit behind the times, but breech birth at term happens in approximately 2-4% of all term birth AND surprise breech IN LABOR (undiagnosed breech) occurs in 1 out of 3 of those…. So super rare.

We should always be keeping our muscle memory on point for breech babies and their families because they deserve it!

Please join us this week Sunday 10:00am-12:00pm 9/28 for our second Bloom motherhood support circle as we connect and encourage each other in our sacred journeys through womanhood, pregnancy, mothering and beyond!

This week’s circle is for BOTH pregnant and post partum women, and we will be meeting in the meditation room at Spyre (1772 Prytania St., New Orleans). Pre-crawling babies are always welcome; and light snacks and tea will be provided! Please also let us know if you need childcare for older children, and we’ll make every effort to accommodate! During this gathering we will talk about ancient wisdom traditions that incorporate symbols and visual representations of deep meaning and truth, and how we can create space (physically and metaphorically!) in our homes and busy lives that incorporates these elements. We hope to see you there! Please let us know if you’ll be coming and if you’ll need childcare so that we can plan accordingly! Link to sign up in bio and below 👇

My husband recently asked me what it was that I care about…what were my priorities, why do I do it all?

There was not a single hesitation:
•More Midwives for our future
•More Midwifery options today
•More access to midwifery care

and also to spend just a little more of the last bit of time with my teenagers before they are gone, dig my hands in my garden, and live a long, balanced, healthy life.

Healthy midwives for healthy birth.

In 2026 Devotion Midwifery is doing it all!

Sometimes we need a little help from our friends… Herbs, Homeopathy, Castor Oil, Sweeps, and fear release techniques. These are midwive’s favorite ways to get labor started when it’s really needed.

With wisdom, rarely used.

Did you have an informed consent and spiritually, emotionally, physically respected labor stimulation with a midwife?

Holders of Space • Prayer Warriors • Protectors

We know that we walk into a birth with death on one shoulder and life on the other, with a great balance of trust and fear in the process.

Midwives know normal so well, we can spot the variations and divergences better than any Doctor and are so careful not to intervene as to cause harm.

Most of the time, this all happens on our knees, with our gaze low and breath steady.

We’ve had lots of NUCHAL arms, hands, and cords these days…5 of the 9 babies born in the last 2 weeks to be exact.

A nuchal means around the neck (technically the back of the neck but 🤷‍♀️) and nuchal cords are super common and happen in approx. 30% of all births. They are often blamed for poor outcomes when the real villain was lack of patience, inability to change positions or move in labor, or basic ignorance of physiology and anatomy.

In the rare event that they are part of the problem, having a midwife that is trained to assess and pivot is key.

It’s wasn’t midwives, Freebirth, mothers, or even birth itself that had me diving deep into physiology… in the beginning it was an obstetrician, Michel Odent.

If you haven’t read “Do we need Midwives”, “Primal Health”, “Birth in the Age of Plastics”, “Can Humanity Survive Socialized Birth”, and soooo many more of his writing, I would say now is always the best time to begin anything.

Rest is loving peace Dr. Odent 🌻

Our first Bloom Motherhood support circle with Devotion is set to kickoff and there is SPACE to register now!

Our first topic: Mothering in community

Please join us as we kick off Devotion Midwifery’s Bloom meetups for pregnant and postpartum women and folks.

We were never meant to mother our babies or ourselves alone during the sacred window of pregnancy as we transform from maiden to mother or during the sacred window of postpartum as we mother and nurture our babies and our newly emerged selves.

Mothering in community was the norm in our evolutionary past, but it is now something we have to actively create. Our first session will focus on our primal need for community and what we can do together through our bloom meetups and also through our day to day lives to ensure these needs are met. We’ll meet as a large group of both pregnant and postpartum moms to kickstart these sessions, and we’ll later divide into two groups of pregnant and postpartum moving forward. Childcare, light snacks and tea will be available. Pre-crawling babies are welcome and encouraged to join!

We hope you’ll join us in building a beautiful and resilient community of mothers seeking to encourage each other through the labyrinth of motherhood’s ups and downs.

Reminder that these circles are offered monthly at Spyre and a full calendar will be posted on our website, socials, and all over!
