✨ Exciting News ✨

I am proud to share that I have officially completed the three-year Somatic Experiencing® Professional Training and am now a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner (SEP)!

This journey has been one of deep personal and professional growth, filled with learning, self-reflection, and the privilege of experiencing the power of healing through the body. I am grateful for the guidance, mentorship, and community that supported me throughout this process.

Becoming an SEP equips me with specialized tools to support clients in navigating and healing from trauma in a compassionate, body-centered way. I look forward to integrating this work into my practice and continuing to walk alongside others in their healing journeys.

Here’s to growth, resilience, and the ongoing work of transforming trauma into strength. 🌿

This is a huge win for first responder mental health!

Murphy Signs PBA Mental Health Bill

Governor Murphy today signed legislation proposed by the State PBA to enhance the benefits and privacy for first responders seeking mental health treatment through worker’s compensation.

The bill, sponsored by Assemblyman Roy Freiman, Senate Joe Lagana and 19 bipartisan cosponsors, requires an employer to provide up to 12 hours of paid confidential counseling services for work related traumatic incidents. These services are in addition to any other benefits provided to members under their health insurance. The bill also, crucially, allows members to select their own counselors rather than use ones assigned by workers compensation.

Finally the bill provides for confidentiality in communications between members and peer counselors provided through the PBA Peer team. This ensures members have the space to freely discuss their need for mental health treatment without fear of their employer being advised.

“This is a major victory for our members and all first responders so that we can protect their mental and physical health,” State PBA President Pete Andreyev said on the bill signing. “Any officer who feels the weight of the job getting heavier on their shoulders should look to this law and our mental health counseling services as their lifeline.”

A big step in a good direction! We need to support our officer with culturally competent therapist who are equipped to handle their traumas.

State PBA Priority Mental Health Bill Advances

Building on the State PBA’s leadership promoting treatment and peer counseling for officers in need of mental health support legislation was recently released unanimously from the Assembly Labor Committee to require workers comp coverage for officers facing post traumatic stress.

Assembly Bill 5792 not only requires 12 weeks of paid counseling but it corrects a failure in the workers comp system in NJ by now permitting an officer to select their own therapist as opposed to one chosen by their employer.

In addition, A5792 provides confidentiality for peer counseling performed by trained officers for their communication with fellow officers in need of mental health support.

The State PBA is grateful to Assemblyman Roy Freiman (D-16) for his sponsorship and to Speaker Coughlin for prioritizing the bill during the busy Budget season. We are looking forward to seeing the bill posted for a vote in the Assembly and for the Senate to move its version, S4590, in the next few weeks.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month

To our first responders—firefighters, police officers, EMTs, dispatchers, and all those who serve on the front lines:
You show up for others every day. This month, we want to remind you to show up for yourself, too.

The weight you carry is real. The stress, the sleepless nights, the things you’ve seen—they matter. And your mental health matters just as much as your physical safety.

It’s not weakness to talk about it. It’s strength.
Let’s break the stigma in the stations, in the squads, and in the silence.
You are not alone. We see you, and we’re here to support you.

👮‍♂️ Therapists Who Understand the Job: The Benefits of Working with a Former Cop 🚓

For first responders, mental health challenges can be unique. Having a therapist who was once a cop means they truly understand the high-stress, intense experiences of the job. Here’s why it can make a big difference:

Shared Understanding of the Job’s Demands
A former cop knows firsthand the emotional toll that comes with responding to crises, dealing with trauma, and the unique stressors you face every day.

Safe Space to Open Up
With someone who "gets it," there’s less fear of judgment. You can share your feelings, struggles, and fears with a therapist who understands the nuances of the job and the weight it carries.

Relatable Coping Strategies
A therapist with experience in law enforcement can offer tailored coping mechanisms and strategies that truly resonate, helping you navigate the emotional challenges specific to first responders.

No Need for Extra Explaining
You don’t have to break down the complexities of the job. A therapist who was a cop understands the trauma, stress, and struggles that come with the job without needing extra explanation.

Supportive, Judgment-Free Zone
Having someone who’s been in your shoes provides reassurance that you’re not alone and that seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness.
If you're a first responder feeling overwhelmed, it may be time to work with someone who knows exactly where you're coming from. 💙

Therapy From the Comfort of Home

My colleagues and clients would describe me as a genuine, caring, culturally competent, and compassionate clinician that specializes in treatment of adverse life events and occupational stress injuries. I have over 10 years of experience working in the mental health field, having graduated in 2010 with a Master’s in Forensic Psychology and then in 2014 with a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am a Board Certified Licensed Professional Counselor, a Certified First Responder Counselor, and a trained Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapist. I offer a variety of evidence-based, therapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy , Motivational Interviewing, and EMDR to help reduce symptoms of occupational stress injuries and reactions, learn coping skills and build resilience. Each approach is tailored based on a collaborative, strengths-based fit to match the needs, goals and performance of the individual. I am passionate about working with Responders, their loved ones, all legal professionals (dispatchers, co-responders, crime scene technicians, probation/parole officers, etc) and all survivors of trauma; be it vicarious, indirect or direct. I have worked alongside corrections officers at county jail and state prisons earlier in my career. I also provide supervision to clinicians working toward their LPC.
