The Montgomery County Early Childhood Coalition is proud to announce that we have been awarded a $9,000 grant from the Indiana Afterschool Network!

This generous funding will directly support our Camp Milligan program by expanding access to high-quality literacy materials, enhancing staff training opportunities, and providing additional resources to create meaningful, engaging experiences for our campers.

Through this grant, we will be able to strengthen our focus on engaging literacy development while continuing to foster a fun, supportive, and enriching environment for every child we serve.

We are incredibly grateful to the Indiana Afterschool Network for their investment in our community and their commitment to supporting programs that make a lasting impact on children and families. This partnership allows us to further our mission of promoting school readiness, lifelong learning, and positive youth development right here in Montgomery County.

We look forward to putting these funds into action and seeing the lasting benefits for our campers, staff, and families throughout the upcoming camp season!

"Think, See, Wonder" was the theme of our latest workshop we hosted on Wednesday! Elyse Handel from The Children's Museum of Indianapolis helped us practice taking time to truly think, see, and wonder with the use of some really cool pieces from their museum exhibits. She then shared how to do this using every day items and observational drawings.

Attendees were treated to classroom supply kits that featured high quality, nature based learning materials and books. We truly appreciate Elyse visiting and helping our educators develop more skills to use with their students. We also send a big thank you to Sunoco Midwest Clean Fuel for a delicious dinner!

Next month we will celebrate The Week of the Young Child, a special week hosted by The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)that recognizes the importance of early learning, young children, their families, and the educators who support them every day.

This nationwide celebration highlights how meaningful early childhood experiences help children learn, grow, and thrive. It’s also a wonderful opportunity for programs, educators, and families to come together to celebrate the joy of learning through play.

Here are some fun daily themes you can celebrate with your students:

🎵 Music Monday – Sing, dance, and explore the joy of music together.
🥗 Tasty Tuesday – Try a healthy snack activity or cooking project with children.
📚 Work Together Wednesday – Focus on teamwork through group projects and cooperative play.
🧠 Artsy Thursday – Encourage creativity through art, crafts, and imaginative expression.
👨‍👩‍👧 Family Friday – Celebrate families and the important role they play in children’s learning and development.
