Our Ministry Quality Cohort wrapped up our year of work with a day full of PLAY! We all had the amazing opportunity to visit the Indianapolis Childrens Museum and spend our morning immersed in hands on play experiences in the beautiful Playscape exhibit!

Our cohort was led by the wonderful museum early childhood staff, Elyse and Lydia, and they presented many new ideas, their favorite materials to use with young children, and practical strategies to help keep our students and families engaged in learning!

Stay tuned as we will invite Elyse and Lydia to our very own community next spring for an engaging hands-on workshop; free to all local early childhood educators! 💡🍎📚

Our community is experiencing the devastating impact of three early learning programs closing. We understand how challenging this is for local families, employers, and child care providers.

It’s important to know that this is a state-wide issue, mainly due to funding cuts for the CCDF voucher program and reimbursement rate reductions. As a result, many providers are having to operate in a deficit, reduce staff, or close.

In Montgomery County, we’ve worked hard to ensure that local families have access to quality child care. If the funding cuts continue, we fear there will be a mass exodus of qualified educators from the field, a rise in unsafe care, and a deepening of the child care crisis that already burdens working families.

High-quality care is a major piece of infrastructure for communities:
▪️It enables parents to work or seek education and training.
▪️It supports children’s healthy development and prepares them for Kindergarten, leading to stronger, long-term outcomes.
▪️It allows employers to hire working parents and contribute to the economy.

Looking for a way to help? We urge community members to call or write local legislators and let them know how important funding is for early education. An advocacy toolkit is available on our website here: https://www.mcecc-in.org/advocate

It offers contact information and sample letters to mail or email. Our website also provides guidance in what to look for in quality care and other resources: https://www.mcecc-in.org/parent-resources

Thank you for doing your part to support early childhood education!

The survey takes less than 15 minutes and is open until Monday, Nov. 17.
Complete it for a chance to win a classroom materials package.

It was a Carnival of Curiosity at the 5th Annual Early Learning Expo! We welcomed 70 local educators to Crawfordsville High School this past Saturday for a morning of education, celebration, and support. This year's event focused on the importance of play and STEM activities in classrooms, showcasing how much children learn by simply just playing.

Our Keynote Speaker Kasey Kile Wilkinson presented "The Power of Play," with great lessons and fun pieces from KODO Kids. Participants then cycled through stations and displays from Kodo Kids, Lakeshore Learning, and Flourish Studio & Classroom to learn how they can incorporate more play in daily routines. Our guests also enjoyed treats from The Warehouse Bakery and Sunoco Midwest Clean Fuel while they visited with vendors and wrote letters to local legislators. No one left empty-handed thanks to special classroom giveaways from KODO Kids, Lakeshore Learning, Penguin Random House, and all of our participating vendors!

In the face of tough budget cuts, early childhood professionals continue to lead with passion, creativity, and heart. This event is more than just fun- it's an opportunity to celebrate the profession and thank the teachers who shape young lives every day.

The Montgomery County Early Childhood Coalition and the Montgomery County Community Foundation are proud to host this annual gathering to show our local educators how valued they are in the community. We send a big thank you to everyone who attended and helped make this another great event!

Many of our local providers participated in this survey. We encourage you to review the report to gain a clearer understanding of the challenges our child care providers are currently facing.

Early Learning Indiana conducted a statewide survey in August, gathering responses from more than 440 child care providers across 67 counties. The results show deepening challenges in early learning across the state. Providers report declining enrollment, staffing shortages and significant funding instability. See the survey results. https://earlylearningin.org/current-challenges-in-child-care/
