Annual Scout Spring Fling, Pioneer Woman Museum
March 11, 10:00 am–1:00 pm
The Pioneer Woman Museum will host its annual Scout Spring Fling on Saturday, March 11, beginning at 10 am. Events will include hands-on programming for ages six and up.
Through a partnership with the Pioneer Genealogical Society, scouts will be introduced to tracking their family history. The first fifty participants will receive a free family genealogy workbook, courtesy of the Pioneer Genealogical Society. The activity will meet some of the requirements related to scout badges and patches.
Adansonia Wildlife Inc. will be on hand this year with live insects and other small animals for participants to interact with up close. “We are so excited to be part of the museum’s annual Scout Spring Fling. We will have lots of bugs for the kids and parents to look at and learn about,” said Ciara Utech, executive director and owner of Adansonia Wildlife Inc.
Other activities planned for the day include crafts, an outdoor nature walk, making personal first aid kits and another surprise or two. “Scout Spring Fling is a big day for us at the museum. We enjoying having the scouts here so much,” said Pioneer Woman Museum Director Robbin Davis. “It’s our kick off to the spring.”
Activities are free with admission. Scouts are encouraged to wear their uniforms or their troop shirts. The day’s events will run 10 am through 1 pm. Troops need to preregister for the event and the registration deadline is Thursday, March 9. To make a troop reservation, please call 580-765-6108 or email piown@okhistory.org. Individual scouts do not have to preregister. Non-scouts are encouraged to attend as the event is open to anyone who is interested in participating.

WORDS OF WISDOM...GSUSA Should Listen to:
From Kristen Wickham :"Conformity is not the same as unity. Teaching our scouts to stand up for what is right is more important than teaching them to conform. Those who are choosing to protest or abstain from watching or participating in the inauguration are exercising their freedom of expression same as everyone who is going or supportive of this incoming regime. That is not nearly as divisive as the president elect and his statements about the Muslim, Latino, African American, immigrant, underprivileged, lgbtq and female communities he marginalized throughout his campaign and will continue to marginalize through his reign as the most closeted, racist, bigot, misogynist and mentally and intellectually unfit President of the United States. I am dismayed by the GSUSA and their choice to promote this event and this President. I thought we were supposed to be teaching girls to be inclusive, tolerant and supportive of women everywhere of all colors and backgrounds and not to stand for mistreatment and abuse of women. This decision to allow your organization to be seen at this event is a failure of epic proportions. It is clear to me GSUSA doesn't really care about girls and the initiatives it preaches. All GSUSA cares about is money. I am ashamed of your decision."
