On Sept. 10th, Team Collins-Jones will depart San Diego for a little 1000 mile bicycle ride to Crested Butte CO. to celebrate Jones' 50th Birthday and raise monies for 5 charities that are close to our hearts! We hope you will share in our journey as it unfolds and consider making a contribution along the way! With a much loved 1963 Kenskill Camper, "Sag-wagon" in tow, Collins will be providing much needed support during our adventure including motivational speeches, camp management, trip blogging, and fine dining! With quite a packing challenge this adventure will feature the following:
1. A nice 4000 foot climb to kick off the ride on day 1! Straight up from Pacific Beach to the top of the Coastal Range.
2. Then all the way to BELOW sea level near the Salton Sea on Day 2.
3. A gradual climb through California, Arizona, and New Mexico into the San Juan Range of Colorado.
4. Highest elevation is reached at Red Mountain Pass at over 11,000 feet near Silverton CO.
5. Net elevation change of 8885 feet and total elevation climb is over 50,000 feet, almost 10 miles of vertical climb!
6. Temperature ranges from as low as 33 to over 107 degrees. We have selected five worthy charities to receive pledges for those interested in donating on behalf of the ride:
