Robert Mayor, LMHC and Kelly Mayor, LCSW is a mental health therapy practice located at 1992 Lewis Turner Blvd in Fort Walton Beach. Robert specializes in PTSD, trauma, depression, anxiety, and stress. He has extensive experience with the active duty and veteran population. He is trained in EMDR, which is an evidenced based treatment for overcoming traumatic events. Kelly specializes in anxiety disorders, phobias, OCD, and postpartum depression/anxiety/OCD. She is a member of the International OCD Foundation and frequently attends training in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy. She mainly offers telehealth video sessions. By learning to tolerate feelings of anxiety and not use avoidance, the brain creates new learning through the process called Habituation. By repeating these small exposures over time, the brain is able to re-learn that a certain situation is actually not dangerous. Anxiety will continue to decrease the next time that the person is in the feared situation. This explains why Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy is a very effective treatment for anxiety and OCD.

It is important for therapists to distinguish between Generalized Anxiety vs OCD. Generalized anxiety is best treated with Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). However, OCD is best treated with Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy. Some clients may have both, which would then require a customized mix of both treatments.

Congratulations to Kelly Mayor, LCSW for completing the Behavior Therapy Training Institute (BTTI) with the International OCD Foundation. It involved a five day course in advanced OCD treatment, followed by monthly consultation group with other OCD therapists.
