I'm busy getting ready for the Artisan and Vintage fair this weekend, but had to take a minute to share this photo. I learned a new, completely non-toxic way to add patina to my fine silver work, and I love how it turned out! You can see the polished versions on the left, and the pieces with patina from the same series on the right. I've tried doing this, though I blew the eggs first, so that the potential for goopy accidents was removed. As with many things, it looks simple when an expert is doing it, but the learning curve is steep.

I've been in love with the work of Faberge, and others who elevated the Easter egg to an art form, ever since I was a kid. This one is a relatively restrained piece for Faberge, carved from jadeite, wrapped in a trellis of rose cut diamonds, and lined with white satin. Originally it was held by three silver putti on a jadeite base, and contained a tiny elephant automaton carved from ivory.
