Kristin Dykstra, CPST

Kristin Dykstra, CPST I'm here to help you with your carseat and booster questions! This is a volunteer service.

Fun facts about me:
-I LOVE figuring out 3 across in a vehicle!
-I am a big fan of camping.
-I have 3 young kids of my own, so I'm in the thick of carseat use every day.
-If you're local to me, I can gladly meet with you to get your carseats installed correctly.
-If distance is a factor, messaging or video chat is always an option to get things correct.
-Please follow my page so you can learn more about carseat safety!

We're excited to announce the launch of our new children’s book, Clifford Takes a Ride, in collaboration with Mercedes-Benz and Scholastic! This will be a tool for educators and parents to teach kids about child passenger safety in a fun and engaging way. Knowing that a properly used and installed child safety seat can reduce the risk of injury by as much as 71%, we hope that, by promoting safe behaviors and providing families with safety tips, we can prevent more injuries and save more lives.

Boosters are not for babies!
They're for big kids who are not adult sized yet.

Just like a helmet, life jacket, or rock climbing harness is a piece of safety equipment that must fit and be worn correctly to protect the person using it, the vehicle seatbelt is a piece of safety equipment that must fit and be worn correctly to protect your child! A booster seat allows your child to use the adult-sized seatbelt safely, even though they're smaller than an adult.

Kids should stay in a booster until they pass the 5-Step Test for a safe seatbelt fit:
-Back against the vehicle seat without slouching
-Knees bent naturally over the edge of the seat
-Feet flat on the floor
-Lap belt sits low on the hips, touching the tops of the thighs, not on the soft abdomen
-Shoulder belt lies snugly across the chest and shoulder, not on the neck or face
