Overview
Acts in a supportive role to the Administrator. Coordinates specimen procurement and processing operations under the direction of the Administrator. Coordinates and directs the activities of all field phlebotomists, clientele, and other contractors. Serves as a resource to technicians and a liaison to clientele, patients, and families. Provides a timely communication link between staff and leadership.
Responsibilities
Coordinates all activities in/out the office, including specimen procurement, receiving, and processing, supplies management, and quality assurance.
• Monitors productivity and ensures appropriate quality metrics are met.
• Actively assists leadership in the preparation of daily schedules, supply orders, and opportunities for development and improvement.
• Performs and delegates training, assists in tracking and completion of training and competency documents for new hire and yearly evaluations.
• Monitors staff for compliance of competency standards, adherence to protocols, and maintains documentation.
• Assists Administration in preparing, reviewing, and revising the laboratory's procedure manual. Assists with the CMS review and site inspections on a regular basis.
• Ability to routinely perform duties of all Phlebotomy Lab staff, as needed, including competencies and continuing education.
• Other job functions as assigned.
Qualifications
• 2 years of relevant clinical laboratory experience required, 1 year in supervisory role preferred. Associate’s or a bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Formal training as Phlebotomist or Medical Assistant required, successful completion of phlebotomist competencies. Certification in phlebotomy, PBT (ASCP, NHA, NPA) or equivalent required.
• Advanced knowledge of medical/laboratory terminology.
• Extensive knowledge of laboratory operations to include customer service, specimen collection, documenting, charting, accessioning, and processing. Appropriate technical and clinical expertise.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to resolve problems using appropriate resources, make informed decisions and respond to complex inquiries in a courteous and timely manner; support/lead teamwork in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary setting.
• Strong computer skills in laboratory and hospital information systems. Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
• Excellent customer service skills and ability to interact with a diverse population of patients and clients.
