Race and Weekend recap. The weekend was incredibly special. I got to spend time with my family , meet my coach .kiwi and see my friend ! The race itself however did not go according to plan. Was it the fact that the race was 20 minutes delayed and I exerted too much energy shivering as I tried to stay warm in these all of the sudden frigid temps? All I know is I felt great and was on pace for the first half of the race and as you can see struggled quite a bit in the back half as my legs just kept cramping up and the wind was hitting me in a way that I am not accustomed to at this moment. On the positive! I did finish unlike this years spring half when I had to stop due to injury! However I was 8 minutes off my A goal and 6 off my B goal. At the end of the race there was no easy way to exit as the half was still going on so some of us resorted to scaling a fence to get out. Am I disappointed? Yes I am. But all this means is I am hungrier than ever to keep working towards my goals and feel proud that I did finish top 20 percent of my age group. Now off to the DR for a few days of R and R.

Always think about my maternal grandfather today on Veterans Day. D day plus four, multiple Purple Hearts and other honors. Thank you to him and all the Veterans who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our safety (including my husband) and who have made it possible for us to do the “little” things day in and day out like going for a run.

To those AMAZING 50,000 plus who completed yesterdays . Those were SOME conditions. These are a few photos of me and how I felt during Saturday’s 12.5 miler with speed work so I cannot imagine what it was like to run a marathon with a dew point of 60 and a course like NY. Huge congrats to all who did! Wear your bling proud today. You deserve it!!

To all you running tomorrow! Don’t forget to enjoy the journey, make the memories, and look around. There is nothing like the . We all know it will be a warm one so on the positive you won’t have to take too many layers to Staten Island. And don’t be fooled; yes I have loved this race and May look happy in all my photos but each marathon there are moments of doubt/panic and fear. Don’t let those moments beat you! Trust your training. You got this.

When you pick up your race number the day before a race and the race director says this is NOT a PR course what do you do? Yes part of you may tap into your competitive side and say “I will show YOU”. And the other part may adjust your expectations. As someone who has done all my 10ks in the hills of Central Park I thought I would be prepared. But this was by far the hardest 10k I have ever done w an elevation gain of 1037 (for those Central Park runners the loop there is 737). This was not a PR but not my slowest and still happy with my placement of 4th in age group and 12th overall female. My spilts where all over the place and what have I learned? I have gained speed over the flats but I have taken a step back and noticed that when I do my speed work in my training I tend to go for the flats and incorporate the hills on my easy. As I move forward, I will work towards reversing this trend. While my next race is a much flatter course, I will refocus my training and work the hills. Proud of my performance here and remember: when you focus on time, remember to take into consideration the course! .kiwi

One year ago today- on October 2, 2021- I completed my 8th marathon. It was about 70 degrees, sunshine the entire time (wayyy too hot) and even as early as mile 3 I knew it was an off day as I felt I was running about :30 per mile faster than I actually was. While I did complete, it was by far my slowest and about 50 minutes slower than I had expected to finish. On the positive, because I had run so much slower than I was trained for, the next day I didn’t feel “so sore”. I decided to sign up for the which was 7 weeks later. I knew that for me running two marathons within two months was going to be a challenge and while I completed my 9th marathon seven weeks later 30 minutes faster, I knew it was a lot on my body. We have been on quite the journey since then; my first DNF due to injury in March, 6 weeks off for Achilles tendinitis, 5 months of PT twice a week. And! The completion of a 5k pacing sub 8 per mile a few weeks ago, countless training runs where I am working on easy pace and speed work like todays 10 miler, and I can say at this point I feel as though I am genuinely enjoying the process again. While marathon #10 will not happen in 2022, I can feel the shift in my mindset and training- for the better- and I look forward to having a strong half marathon in November. .kiwi

Are still a thing? Well whether or not they are, this is a throwback to 2013 when I taught my first fitness class- a class where new moms (or dads :) could bring their little ones and get a workout. Nine years later- commencing on Tuesday, October 4 at 10:30- I will be resuming these classes ! Please let me know if you want more info and please spread the word to all the new mamas you know in our area.

So many more photos and memories but here are just a few. Happy 75th birthday to my father! You always say “getting older beats the alternative” which is probably one of the greatest ways to look at life. You have always been such a source of light, happiness, and stability in my life, always wanting to make sure I am “ok” whether I am 4 months or 44 years. Thank you for being such an incredible father and grandfather. We love you and cannot wait to celebrate with you.

Why does my garmin always have me a few seconds faster per mile than my official results? 😂. Either way! I am super proud of my first race since my injury and when I DNF the half last spring. I’m not used to racing shorter distances (9 marathons done) and this was my FIRST 5k. Conditions hot and humid, course quite hilly, and I had a goal for this race which I did meet. Most important, I had fun, my body felt great and injury free and like I had a lot more miles to give (albeit I would have had to slow down!!) thank you so much to my running coach .kiwi and to my PT who has worked tirelessly with me over many months to get my body to a place where I feel strong and able! Can’t wait for my next race and so grateful to be racing again!!
