Grateful for our first ever harvest of peaches by God’s grace ❤️🙏 This is a bounty that survived many odds, with a story of faith and hope- against-hope 🥹❤️
🍒Many years back, I had a dream: plucking fruit off a tree from my garden. Then life took many turns forcing us to change our dwelling to a rented one with extremely limited access to planting space 🏠. Months flew by. We did not know for how long we would have to stay there. To think of not being able to tend to plants forever seemed like losing a part of myself 🥺
🌳 Just then, an idea came to the rescue: how about a potted tree?! It was a leap of faith to order an organic peach sapling and plant it in a container. I would have been the first in my family to raise a fruit tree. So I read up on it to no end before my first step📕. But that was all the experience I had to fall back on…and faith!
🌸 Last year the potted sapling flowered for the first time in its life! We were so delighted and over the moon! 🤩
🍊It led to about 5 peaches. But alas, the squirrels climbing on the tree to the bird feeder near by, knocked most of them down before they matured. The surviving ones were a feast for the birds and squirrels. 🐿️
🌳 The tree had an unexpected growth spurt right then that really surprised us!! We were happy to see it take roots so well….and realised that’s what happened literally 😂. The potted tree had set out roots into the ground, the likely cause of the sudden growth….
Then we moved. Now how do we transport my dearest tree if the roots were deep in the ground?
🚚 The movers found a way: the roots were yanked out to transport the potted tree to the new location, just before cold weather hit.
🤔 Now the dug out root tips were exposed, with possible watering deficits here and there as we settled into our new life, and then cold weather set in, all back to back. The leaves looked droopy and tired, for many weeks together 🥺😢. We were almost hoping against hope that it would survive 🙏
🍃 This year by God’s grace, the tree put out young green leaves and that too, before the other spring leaves showed up in our yard. Luckily the leaves were not droopy any more! Phew! Then it put out more flowers than before 🌸…understandable since it’s a bigger tree.
🐿️ We were still waiting to see how with the local wildlife would take to it. Luckily, they left these alone, except maybe a few insect bores into a few of them 🐛
And today we get to harvest this bounty, with some more waiting to ripen on the tree. To know that I really was holding my breath if we would get to harvest it this time, and to actually be able to…It was as much a growing experience for us, as it was for the tree! 🥰
A long time dream come true 🥹…so grateful ❤️🙏
