Macular degeneration rarely causes symptoms in its early stages, so annual eye examinations are very important. Common AMD symptoms include:

- Blurry or distorted central vision
- Difficulty seeing colors or contrast
- Difficulty seeing in low-light conditions
- Difficulty recognizing faces or watching tv
- Blurred or dim spots in your field of vision
- Viewing straight lines as wavy or warped

Approximately 1 in 10 Americans ages 50 and older have the early form of AMD. One of the most common early indicators of AMD is the presence of drusen, which are tiny yellow deposits in the retina. Drusen can only be seen by a doctor during an eye exam. If you notice any of these symptoms or believe you may be at risk for AMD, itโ€™s important to get your vision checked with us as soon as possible.
