The Georgia Dirt Farmer's Daughter

The Georgia Dirt Farmer's Daughter My name is Mary Ann Witcher, and I am creating this page to honor and reminisce about my heritage as the daughter of a true Georgia Dirt Farmer.

I was born December 22, 1948, the first of three daughters of Frances Gorman Witcher and Robert Hall Witcher in Polk General Hospital in Cedartown, Georgia. As history has proved, I was a very strong willed and determined "little cuss". I was born with pyloric stenosis and had to under go major intestinal surgery at the age of 7 days old. So my journey through this world was primarily due to the s

trength and personal tenacity of myself and my strong Witcher family. So now if you want to learn more you just have to wander along with me as I blog about my experiences over the last 65 years.

It is time for me to tell my story. It will take some time but I am ready, thanks to a chance meeting with a lady that has unleashed an amazing memory of my childhood and feelings that I have repressed for way too long. I hope I can adequately express my memories and feelings in a manner that will help others to do the same. More to come . . . .

In keeping with the July 4th BBQ theme I have located the "Original Witcher Family Barbeque Sauce Recipe" perfected by my daddy, Robert Hall, for the Polk County 4-H Club Annual Chicken Que. There's a recipe for 100 Chickens (that's 200 halves) and one for a smaller family friendly quantity. Enjoy.

Who knew that my picture of Brunswick Stew would turn up the "Original Witcher Family Recipe" that my cousin Christina Witcher Juergens had in her family recipe files. It is exactly the same, to the letter, recipe that my Daddy used to make his Brunswick Stew in the wash pot over an open fire and it had to be stirred day and night for what seemed like days.

You know you grew up on a Farm when: 1. You give directions not by streets, but by fields and land marks. 2. You were driving Tractors before your feet could hit the pedals. 3. Your homepage...

I look at my hands when I've been working in the garden or potting shed and what do I see? The very same hands of my Grandmama, Irma Willie Brock Witcher. My love for the land most definitely came from these three Witcher's, Irma, Henry and their son Robert Hall. Love them and miss them every day but I am also never closer to them than when I am digging in the dirt.

I am finally doing something that's been on my mental radar for a while. When I turned 65 last December I knew that I just had to create a blog to share some of my favorite memories growing up on a farm in Cedartown, Georgia. So Mary Ann Witcher has just now published a FB page entitled "The Georgia Dirt Farmer's Daughter". Stay tuned for what ever comes to mind or out of some old dusty archives, I don't know how often I will post but if you "like" my page I can assure you that you will be entertained and amused as time goes by.
